Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Not bad, but I think the board has overrated it a bit. Pours a deep brown with a red tint, small off-white head. Aroma is malty and sweet, with hints of apple and caramel or toffee. The taste is much the same, though the fruitiness gets turned way up and the caramel fades. Initial taste is pleasant, but the sweetness lingers and becomes almost overbearing. Very malty, but no hoppiness is present at all. Not a heavy finish, but not particularly clean, either....and the sweet stickiness lingers.

Flaske. Mørk ravfarvet tydeligt filtreret øl. Meget smuk.

Brown pour..translucent with a slight reddish tint. Malt sweetness in the nose....taste is quite the same. Fruity...like raisins with maybe a tinge of caramel-malt in the flavor. Meh....not bad but not anywhere near the quality of Celebrator or the Detonator. You don’t have to put this one on your "must have" list.

Bottle. Pours deep ruby brown with thin creamy tan head. Nice carmel aroma, nice body, no taste of alcohol. A fine bock.

LCBO bottle for $2. One of the best deals there. Faint caramel apple aroma. Clear medium brown, with small tan head that disappeared quickly. Tasty sweet & sour caramel malt. Re-Rate: Had on tap at Beer Bistro in Toronto and wow, what a difference. Aroma, Taste, Flavour way more intense than my bottle rating. Much maltier, caramel, apple. Great doppelbock if you can get it on tap.

12oz. bottle into a mug. Poured a nice amber color with a nice white head. It smelled of sticky caramel and sweet malts (smells almost like apple juice). The palate was very average and unexciting. The taste was unique and very sweet, almost candy-like. Lots of malt, no hint of hops, tastes very much like alcohol flavored apple juice. The sweetness was overboard and unbearable to me (almost like a Smirnoff ice of something where the company adds so much sugar that you can;t taste the alcohol). The flavor points are purely for uniqueness, because I have never really tasted a beer like this, but I had to force it all down. The sweetness was nauseating.
