idbowman82 (62), Painesville, Ohio, USA Mar 16, 2008 Not bad, but I think the board has overrated it a bit.
Pours a deep brown with a red tint, small off-white head.
Aroma is malty and sweet, with hints of apple and caramel or toffee. The taste is much the same, though the fruitiness gets turned way up and the caramel fades. Initial taste is pleasant, but the sweetness lingers and becomes almost overbearing. Very malty, but no hoppiness is present at all. Not a heavy finish, but not particularly clean, either....and the sweet stickiness lingers. rodenbach99 (679), Longueuil, Quebec, Canada Mar 16, 2008 330ml. brwon bottle
bought at the SAQ for the rediculous price of 2,25$CAD
A: copper - amber colour, some head,
S: a lot of malt, some hops, caramel
T: nice malt flavour, some spices, alcohol,
M: roud, full body
D: some alcohol, nice winter sipping beer. Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 15, 2008 Flaske. Mørk ravfarvet tydeligt filtreret øl. Meget smuk. BrockLanders (747), Panama City, Florida, USA Mar 14, 2008 Brown pour..translucent with a slight reddish tint. Malt sweetness in the nose....taste is quite the same. Fruity...like raisins with maybe a tinge of caramel-malt in the flavor. Meh....not bad but not anywhere near the quality of Celebrator or the Detonator. You don’t have to put this one on your "must have" list. HughConway (364), Alabama, USA Mar 11, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep ruby brown with thin creamy tan head. Nice carmel aroma, nice body, no taste of alcohol. A fine bock. Gmoney (250), ManchVegas, New Hampshire, USA Mar 9, 2008 12 oz bottle deep amber pour , decent white head . sweet caramel and fruit nose. very sweet on the palate, like a caramel candied apple .smooth ,medium bodied and finishes suprisingly dry . Imperial-John (154), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Mar 9, 2008 Updated: Jun 20, 2008LCBO bottle for $2. One of the best deals there. Faint caramel apple aroma. Clear medium brown, with small tan head that disappeared quickly. Tasty sweet & sour caramel malt.
Re-Rate: Had on tap at Beer Bistro in Toronto and wow, what a difference. Aroma, Taste, Flavour way more intense than my bottle rating. Much maltier, caramel, apple. Great doppelbock if you can get it on tap. 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Mar 7, 2008 Updated: Oct 21, 200812oz. bottle into a mug. Poured a nice amber color with a nice white head. It smelled of sticky caramel and sweet malts (smells almost like apple juice). The palate was very average and unexciting. The taste was unique and very sweet, almost candy-like. Lots of malt, no hint of hops, tastes very much like alcohol flavored apple juice. The sweetness was overboard and unbearable to me (almost like a Smirnoff ice of something where the company adds so much sugar that you can;t taste the alcohol). The flavor points are purely for uniqueness, because I have never really tasted a beer like this, but I had to force it all down. The sweetness was nauseating.
