Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

LCBO bottle for $2. One of the best deals there. Faint caramel apple aroma. Clear medium brown, with small tan head that disappeared quickly. Tasty sweet & sour caramel malt. Re-Rate: Had on tap at Beer Bistro in Toronto and wow, what a difference. Aroma, Taste, Flavour way more intense than my bottle rating. Much maltier, caramel, apple. Great doppelbock if you can get it on tap.

12oz. bottle into a mug. Poured a nice amber color with a nice white head. It smelled of sticky caramel and sweet malts (smells almost like apple juice). The palate was very average and unexciting. The taste was unique and very sweet, almost candy-like. Lots of malt, no hint of hops, tastes very much like alcohol flavored apple juice. The sweetness was overboard and unbearable to me (almost like a Smirnoff ice of something where the company adds so much sugar that you can;t taste the alcohol). The flavor points are purely for uniqueness, because I have never really tasted a beer like this, but I had to force it all down. The sweetness was nauseating.

Sweet and strong malty aroma. Light amber color with a small tan head. Sweet beginning with a tangy middle and finish. Light body.

Pours brownish-copper color with a small energetic head. Tastes of roasted malt with caramel, cinnamon, honey, and complexity. Nice occasional beer.

Eccellente Doppelbock. Riesce a essere dissetante e gustosa allo stesso tempo. Meglio degustata in Stein o bicchieri simili.

The pour is medium brown, with small white head. The nose is yeast, malt, with hints of floral yeast and honey. The flavor is complex yet smooth while following some scents of the nose. A well rounded brew.
