bblack99 (196), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Sep 10, 2009 Clear dark amber with a biege head. Nicely balanced, some sweet malts and some darker malts as well. Very malty, like drinking bread...with a nice yeasty alcohol twist in the finish. Medium body, feels like 5.x% ABV, not ~8%. Warms as it hits the belly and cheeks. A very, very nice doppelbock (since it’s the granddaddy of ’em all) but not quite as perfect as Celebrator. Pookie9121 (81), Columbia, South Carolina, USA Sep 6, 2009 12 oz. Bottle. Light to medium head. Pleasant aroma. Amber coloring. A decent beer. Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Aug 29, 2009 Pours a lasting ring of beige head and a clear, copper body. Smells of ripe fruit and dough. Flavor is banana, dough, caramel. Some bitterness on the finish. drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 26, 2009 Have had from a 12oz bottle and on tap. A nice rounded and balanced double bock with a sweet finish. One of the best examples. ColoradoMatty (16), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Aug 25, 2009 Bottle at German restraunt-Very light and easy drinking. Yet, it packed a punch. Golden in color with medium head. Great malt flavor. Highly recomended by Coloradomatty! MrRoss (614), Delta, British Columbia, Canada Aug 25, 2009 A really nice beer, with a good, foamy head and a gorgeous amber colour. Aroma was fabulous (the malt?) as was the taste. Rich, and almost sweet in taste, this was a treat to drink. HopheadHans (753), Bay Area, California, USA Aug 24, 2009 Bottle. Pours with a nice golden copper color. Aromas of caramel and butterscotch. Flavors of dark fruit and caramel, with some nice buttery malt finish. Has abit of alcohol hotness in the finish. stephenj007 (25), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 23, 2009 Bottle pour with a nice, dark tan head that dissipated fairly quick. Very clear, copper red color. The flavor was not what I expected.....it had hints of some sweet, but slightly spicy flavors, maybe from the alcohol content?....kind of a brown sugar with maybe some cinnamon, nutmeg, clove? Not malty or hopsy at all. Palate was medium, lingered on the back of the tongue with a slight fizz. I think for comparison purposes, I would really like to try this beer on draft. I liked it, and was really trying it based on the ratings of other members. Just another foray outside my comfort zone.
