The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Garrafa de 50 cl . É uma das Doppelbocks mais fáceis de encontrar. Já foi consumida várias vezes mas nunca tirei notas. É uma boa cerveja

A copper-coloured dobbelbock, with malty caramel aroma and flavour, but not with as full a taste as the ones from Aying or Andechs. Moderately sweet, with a bitter finish, and some unfortunate metallic notes. No reason to revisit this.

An overwhelming caramel aroma. The look of it isn’t very appealing, it has almost no foam and the color is vague, not golden, not dark, not too clear, not too hazy... The taste though is quite sweet and the alcohol is almost undetectable, light body and medium carbonation makes it an easy drink.

Bottle, 330 ml courtesy of colleague. Pours deep amber with off-white head. Caramel malty, sweet, dried fruit and spices notes. Some people are crazy about this, just OK for me.

Diverse set of aromas - toffee, bread, a light touch of orange, some brown sugar and just a bit of plum/prune. Malt dominated, but some noticeable impact of hops and yeast. Slightly dark amber color, hazy; small off-white head. Fairly sweet, especially on the finish; light to moderate bitterness with a hint of orange. Medium bodied; oily/creamy texture; fairly long finish. Overall a pretty good beer; I like the wide diversity of aromas; while it is malt dominated, the hops and yeast add some additional flavors and diversity.

Bottle at the St Neots ’Booze on the Ouse’ Beer Festival 2016. Orange-brown, clear. Bready malty smell. Toast and honey. Taste is sweet and bready with an intense hit of orange peel and spicy hop. Fully carbonated palette. Very very good.

This one’s evaded me for a while, but Salvator is well worth the wait. Paulaner’s Doppelbock pours ruby-brown. Aroma packs dark fruit, caramel, toasted nuts, rich malt, brown sugar, and bread. Flavor brings lots of candy-like and fruity succulence. There’s some heat and sugar from the alcohol, but this brew avoids coming off as hot or cloying. This brew has plenty of strength and more than its fair share of old-world charm.

Originally rated on 5/30/08. my first doublebock was pretty good. the body was a dark reddish color there wasnt much head or lacing to speak of. Thick malty flavor with hints of brown sugar. a rather smooth beer, easy to drink, cant wait to try the second one.
