Namako (4), APO AE, USA does not count Feb 23, 2008 Updated: Apr 16, 2008Poured from a dark brown 0.5 liter bottle with a best by date of 12/08 (L361740), and rated at 7.0% ABV. Poured a dark amber with a very short-lived head. Had a sweet malty aroma with maybe a trace of molasses. The flavor was sweet and malty with a light hint of caramel, but well balanced by hop bitterness and the warmth of alcohol. Though Spring is nearly over, this has become my favorite bier in Germany, at least when it’s below 50 outside! I’m focused on developing a recipe for this one so I can clone this one when I return to the states. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Feb 22, 2008 Pours copper/red with a frothy white head that disappears quickly. Aroma of toffee and caramel. Taste of roasted malts with a finish of cherries and light hops. Full mouth feel. Very nice Dopplebock. exadore (92), Sacramento, California, USA Feb 17, 2008 Bottle. Recommended by BevMo employee when I complained that they were out of Celebrator. Poured a dark ruby brown color, with a light white head that quickly left. Nose of malt, maybe lightly roasted. Tastes pretty good, lighter that I would like, with a medium body. Finishes well, but leaves me desiring more. gam (1068), brisbane, Australia Feb 17, 2008 Pours red/brown weak head good carbonation, aroma spicey malt, flavour bitter tender roasted malt flavour, coffee, chocolate, tang on the tongue that is bitter, finish bitter malty goes down very nicely. Allen (1289), Switzerland Feb 10, 2008 Bottled 50cl. 7.9 ABV. It pours a deep amber beer with a dissapearing white head. The nose is of berries, eucalyptus, smoke, caramel, carrots, syrup and wood. Very well balanced and rather strong. The taste is syrupy with hints of caramel, candy, smoke and hop. Good balance. Some figs. Lots of alcohol before the finish which is of caramel. Hints of marmite, grass and aniseed. ogreface (292), Budapest, Hungary Feb 9, 2008 A nagyböjt idejére főzték a Pálos szerzetesek a malátában gazdag dupla bakot hogy átvészeljék ezt az ínséges időszakot.Borostyán színű,kemény habú alkoholban erős lager ez.Fűszeres,gyümölcsös,karamellás ital, aminek az utóízében ott akellemes száraz kesernyésség.Alapmű! MartiniFiend (104), Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, USA Feb 8, 2008 Updated: Feb 13, 2008this beer was once one of the best dopplbocks on the market. For some reason the turned it into a weak crappy bock and now call it a double bock. The color is wrong for a dopplbock, the alcohol content is too low and it tastes like a Lienenkugel’s Big But.
