Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Dark amber pour with a thin white head. Molasses, caramel malt aroma. Thick body. Taste is very heavy on the malt, especially the caramel, with a big alcohol hit. I find it a pretty easy drinking double bock, if there can be one. Be careful of the alcohol, though.

Beautifully balanced beer. Reddish hues with a deep dark balanced alcoholic structure which keeps on giving. Powerful grip. Excellent.

Thick body with fruit and slight wine like aroma. Alcohol taste is evident but not distasteful. I’d buy this beer again but wouldn’t go out of my way to do so.

12oz bottle (thanks Thermo1223)- pours a nice amber color with a quickly disappearing head. Very clear looking brew. Tastes of honey and caramel noted with the alcohol well hidden at 7.9%. Fairly rich taste and heavy but enjoyable and easy to drink. My first Paulaner Doppelbock and a very good one.

16.9 oz bottle-A medium amber body with a small ring for a head and an aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Taste of the same with a faint alcohol taste. Not bad but I don’t think as well overall as Korbinian .

Smells a little earthy and sweet with some caramel malt stuff. Clear reddish brown with a small tan head. Tastes bocky with some honey sweetness and non obtrusive alcohol. Alcohol is well hidden, the bottle says 7.9%.

Bottle - Pours a deep amber/coppery. Aroma is sweet malt, alcohol and dried apricots. Flavor is similar all sweet malt up front, a bit bitterness with some dried fruity notes, hint of sulfur and a tinge of alcohol on the finish.
