MaltOMeal (642), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Nov 8, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear copper color with minimal head. Aroma is sweet malt, bready with raison. Taste is sweet bread with raison; malty with little hops. My taste preferences must be changing because I used to like this beer more when I was first getting into craft beers. keith0718 (157), Olathe, Kansas, USA Nov 5, 2007 A good beer with a strong caramel character which gives it a unique taste. However, I don’t really care for the hop character of the beer. probstk (1005), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Nov 3, 2007 330 ml bottle from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass.
App.: Reddish-orange copper, clear, small light tan head.
Aroma: Massive amounts of brown/burnt sugar, molasses, toffee, figs, dates, raisins and anything else dark and sweet; some wood, some herbal notes.
Palate: Medium-full body, soft carbonation with some effervescence.
Flav.: Tons more of the sweet, syrupy malts and associated dark and sweet flavours, more herbal than the nose, a touch of wood, a touch of alcohol, a touch of esters; on swallowing, it is a bit sweet, but not cloying, more alcohol shows, lingering burnt sugar/molasses.
Huge and malty – a great sipper. Charlzm (247), Los Angeles, California, USA Oct 28, 2007 Updated: Nov 6, 2007Pours a hazy golden brown with minimal head, though thin layer of foam does hang around a while. Nose is strong and sweet, with brown sugar and pitted fruit (date, raisin, fig) notes. Bready and nutty flavor; aroma components more subtle than expected on palate. Mildly bitter and barely astringent finish. A touch of alcohol fire to warm the belly. Very nice, although a tad cloying. FatguyRacer (129), Crownsville, Maryland, USA Oct 26, 2007 Very tasty brew! Very smooth going down. Very quaffable. Sweet tasting and not very hoppy. A long lingering aftertaste that’s very pleasant. I wish i bought more than one bottle. fro2218 (466), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 26, 2007 Dark amber color. Sweet bread and dark candy smells and flavors. Some molasses and dark fruits as well. robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Oct 24, 2007 pour is dark copper with a very small white head.
smell is sweet, caramel, hops why in the background.
taste is also a little sweet and then the bitter sneaks in, the sweetness is from honey, and there is a little bit of malt in there also that grows stronger as you drink the pint. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Oct 24, 2007 Figured it was about time for me to rate this. Poured crystal-clear coppery orange with about 3/4" of creamy beige head sticking around. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty caramels, floral notes, and lighter herbs.. sweet overall and quite enticing. The flavor was definitely on the sweet side with toasty caramel, molasses, and brown sugar representin’.. bitterness was light and complimentary. Medium-bodied and syrupy on the front of the palate with moderate carbonation pushing it nicely across the palate.. smooth with a shorter, but enjoyable finish.
