ElGaucho56 (386), USA Oct 21, 2007 Sampled @ GDBTF. Pours a lovely garnet red with very little head. Rather strong toffee, caramel on the nose. Rich on the palate, crisp malt sweetness. Hops are minimal until the finish, slightly woody but well complementing the malts. Pretty good doppelbock. McGarnigle (302), Rochester, New York, USA Oct 20, 2007 500 ml bottle dated 11/06, so this one has been around. Pours a gorgeous, crystal clear red-brown. Decent tannish head. Aroma is of caramel maltiness. Very nice full body with small-bubble carbination. Taste is malty, some caramel and perhaps molasses, but its leavened by the hops which keep it from being too sweet. The back end has a shot of alcohol too it. MTP (13), Waco, Texas, USA Oct 19, 2007 This was a slightly red beer that had a fairly decent flavor. A little sweet, but also hoppy. Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Oct 19, 2007 Pours a dark brown with a light tan head. Smells of raisins, pepper, some licorice. Tastes of caramel, some chocolate, dark fruit, some pepper, some banana like hints. lumberjack (178), Michigan, USA Oct 18, 2007 12 oz bottle from The Rock...Amber colored with a quickly disappearing head. Aroma of caramel and toasted malts, slightly hoppy. Flavor is the same, caramel malts with a slight hop backbone. Alcohol presents itself as it warms, but not in an unpleasant way. Well carbonated and not too thick on the tongue. Not as complex as a I was expecting (first dopplebock I have tried) but very good overall. portermax55 (118), Canterbury, Connecticut, USA Oct 16, 2007 12oz. bottle while in Munich for Oktoberfest. Pours deep red with a super thin white head. Aromas of malt and caramel as well. Flavors of sweet caramel with a sharp alcohol finish. Very smooth, full mouthfeel. Very good brew. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Oct 16, 2007 Bottle bought at the Oktoberfest in Munchen. Oaky brow with some head. Sour nose. Oaky, sweet like toffee and caramel. And then gets a bit sour at the end. Superb lacing. Alcohol taste a bit too strong though. aru (105), Smørum, Denmark Oct 16, 2007 I’d expected more from this double bock. The color is nice amber but with very little form. The palate is thin and the taste rather sweet, with the alcohol coming through.
