Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

nice amber color on the pour with no head. it looked mighty tasty although in the bar i couldn’t smell it at all. very hoppy taste in my opinion that i didn’t really care for at all.

I’ve had this one many times, so I thought I should finally rate it. It may be the first authentic doppel bock, but nowhere near the best out there. Pours a nice amber colour with almost zero head. Has a sweet molassas, carmel smell that comes through on the taste. Body is thick, and alcoholic strength is evident. Way too sweet for me overall, but an interesting beer.

Pours beautiful amber red. Little head, giving the carbonation it has. Sweet molasses, and caramel smell. Tastes like a carmel candy bar. Very sweet. Maybe the sweetest dopple I have yet to have. Finishes with a hit of liquor. Not something I would like to have more than one of, at a sitting, but, a very good--but different dopple. EDIT: just noticed the "produced date" is 11/06. A year old beer.

0.33 l bottle, 7.9 %. Dark amber color with diminishing head. Very malty, caramelly, toffeish and berryish aroma with hints of alcohol. Rich sweet and malty flavor with caramel, warming alcohols and berries. Chewy mouthfeel. Nice and complex warming alcohol note.

i must have had a bottle that went terribly bad. Tasted in Oct. 07, probably meant for Winter of 06, there was not much i enjoyed about this beer. I will try to re-rate next winter. But i don’t think i’ll ever enjoy this better than the great Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock

One of my all time faves, the standard by which all double bocks are judged. Malty candy like citrusy aroma. Amber color with minimal head. Taste is intense bready maltiness with hints of toffee. Palate is chewy and complex. Finish is incredibly smooth hoppiness.

I like the body and flavor of this beer. I have been wanting to try this beer for months and finally found it and have not been let down. A very great tasting beer

Unbelievable I have not rated this beer. Aroma is bready malty with plent of molasses and dark fruit. Flavor is also bready and lots of toffee. Alcohol does make an appearance but nothing to over the top. A solid dopple and something every beer drinker should have at least once.
