Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

This Doublebock was awesome. At first I was hesitant because I had the Samuel Adams Doublebock and, even though I am a Samuel Adams fan, I didn’t like it. My only problem was that we wanted a glass to drink it out of but the bartender didn’t hear us so I drank it from the bottle.

Bottle conditioned and courtesy of the LCBO. Poured a wonderful mahogany, with high levels of carbonation and a steady stream of bubbles breaking the surface. A sweet malty aroma with a metallic edge. The flavour was sweet and bready. My first dopplebock...and not my last!

Pours a deep amber color into the dimpled mug. There was an inch of creamy head and a small amount of lacing. The scent was of cloves, spice, malt and fruit. The taste was syrupy sweet with some hints of fruit, cherries, malt and hints of bready notes. A solid doppelbock.

This is part of a beer club. Had only one bottle but was decent for the price. Poured great and had a nice finish. Would do again.

Bottle, from the Dodgy Deli on Cowley Road in Oxford. Red brown, smallish tan cap of foam. Dark caramel malt aroma, along with a healthy dose of cherry flavor. Not actual cherries, more like the cherry syrup that goes on ice cream. Not a bad thing as all. Sweet, plummy malt, a bit of dark bread. Lingering chewy sweetness. Medium bodied--to my taste feels like it would be more satisfying a little thicker. Overall, a very nice drop.

Bold red colour. Strong aroma of malt and caramel. Flavour consists mainly of malt sweetness. Texture is rich and smooth.

Bottle sampled. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel, molasses, dark fruits, and toasted malts. Flavor is moderately sweet and full bodied with toffee, caramel, brown sugar, and a hint of raisins with a clean and crisp finish
