Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Rust colored with medium to weak head. Nose a good mix of floral hops, fresh grain and the whiff of yeast from opening a bag of bread. Fruit flavors predominate, from citrus to summer fruit to a candy apple finish. Palate full with some fizz, but a unpleasant caramel feel. This beer is complex with much character, but a bit sweeter than I like.

Pours a deep amber color with very little head and no lacing. Low carbo. The aroma was sweet with possibly a hint of apples. The taste was also sweet with almost an apple cider like taste to it. This was an easy drinking beer, but maybe after the the two stronger beers had that night it was too subtle, or my senses were starting to degrade a bit... I will try this again to get a better feel for it, but it was very drinkable.

I am not a fan of double bocks at all but I was very impressed by this beer. This is an exception. It is a very sweet and crisp flavor.

This Doublebock was awesome. At first I was hesitant because I had the Samuel Adams Doublebock and, even though I am a Samuel Adams fan, I didn’t like it. My only problem was that we wanted a glass to drink it out of but the bartender didn’t hear us so I drank it from the bottle.

Bottle conditioned and courtesy of the LCBO. Poured a wonderful mahogany, with high levels of carbonation and a steady stream of bubbles breaking the surface. A sweet malty aroma with a metallic edge. The flavour was sweet and bready. My first dopplebock...and not my last!

Pours a deep amber color into the dimpled mug. There was an inch of creamy head and a small amount of lacing. The scent was of cloves, spice, malt and fruit. The taste was syrupy sweet with some hints of fruit, cherries, malt and hints of bready notes. A solid doppelbock.

This is part of a beer club. Had only one bottle but was decent for the price. Poured great and had a nice finish. Would do again.
