Dark caramel malt aroma, along with a healthy dose of cherry flavor. Not actual cherries, more like the cherry syrup that goes on ice cream. Not a bad thing as all. Sweet, plummy malt, a bit of dark bread. Lingering chewy sweetness. Medium bodied--to my taste feels like it would be more satisfying a little thicker. Overall, a very nice drop. mike1977ok (637), Netherlands

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 17, 2007 Excellent. The first doppelbock I ever drank several years ago, and one I return to often. Great appearance, and flavor -- the molasses in the aroma transfers over to the flavor. Fin (3411), Merton, Oxfordshire, England

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 15, 2007 I agree with everything that matt (below me) has stated. I love the malty aromas, with a bit of caramel as well. The color was very pleasing to the eye. For this type of beer, I thoroughly enjoyed it. matt7215 (956), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Sep 10, 2007 Poured a clear, bright red, with a tan head that vanished quickly.
The aroma was red candy licorice, alcoholic notes, molasses, and grain.
The mouthfeel was a bit too watery and much lower carbonation than the usual.
The taste is red licorice (which I feel is the combination of the malt and grain flavours combining with some cranberry esters). The beer was slightly warming, but not noticeably high alcohol.
An enjoyable beer, but one best served late at night to enjoy alone.
