walter (359), Staunton, Virginia, USA Sep 8, 2007 Draft, Edelweiss Restaurant, Staunton VA. Bright, reddish brown with offwhite head. Aromas of brown sugar, nuts, caramel, and some light fruit. Flavor is balanced between sweet and bitter, with notes of fruity apple, raisin/grape, toasty caramel malt, and a clean finish. Really tasty stuff. rdelljh (117), Pennsylvania, USA Sep 7, 2007 Nice carbonation. Elements of molasses, caramel and syrup, hints of dried apple and oak. Goes well with the winter season.
Old Stein Inn, MD MadMan (497), Tempe, Arizona, USA Sep 6, 2007 Bottle. Pours a deep brown wtih disapearing tan head. Aroma is malty sweet with notes of molasses. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately bitter, with notes of brown sugar, alcohol, and a light woodiness. Roastiness is present throughout. Full in body with medium carbonation. Finish is lightly bitter and a little too sticky sweet. stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Sep 4, 2007 500 ml bottle from Bevmo. Pours a translucent mahogany red-brown with a small off white head that quickly fades to nothing. Armoa is light with sweet caramel and biscuits. Flavor is complex without being overbearing--I note anise, caramel, burnt toast, biter hops, almonds and a touch of butter. Mouthfeel is undercarbonated and syrupy. Finish is long, slightly biter and sweet with caramel. Overall this is an interesting offering, I could see myself ordering up a dozen or so of these at Oktoberfest in munchen. Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam Sep 3, 2007 A delicious world-class doppelbock with a smooth mouthfeel, carmelized apple arome, and sublime lingering aftertaste. Those who don’t appreciate the style won’t appreciate the beer; those who do most certainly will. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Sep 3, 2007 This beer confused me. It poured far lighter and had far less rich sweetness and fruitiness of any dopplebock I’ve ever had. It certainly is worlds different from Celebrator or Maximator or even Optimator. This tastes and looks more like a regular bock than a dopple. As a bock, I’d give it high marks, but it gets bumped down some for just not living up to the style. I find it hard to believe this is #6 in style. Anyway, the beer poured a golden brown with a slight amber hue, crystal clear with moderate amounts of head. The beer smells like a bock and tastes like a bock. This beer could use a bit more carbonation, a bit more hops and a bit more depth...a bit more of everything. It’s good, but nothing to rush out and buy again. Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Sep 3, 2007 Mahogany with a nice head. The aroma has notes of malt and hops. The mouthfeel is smooth. The initial impressions in the flavour are sweet and malty with notes of dark fruit, but then comes a nice bitterness along as a good counterweight. It’s a smooth and nice doppel-bock, and my husband is very fond of it. sneezey (110), Hackettstown, New Jersey, USA Sep 2, 2007 Extra heavy malt, a bit too sweet - only one of these at a time. Pleasant but a bit too much. Nice on a cold night, but only as a single.
