Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Clear dark amber color, not much head on this pour. Figgy malt aromas are prevalent, but there are also suggestions of toffee, alcohol and pine. Very smooth character, with a malty/toffe flavor, with roasted caramel notes as well. The alcohol is definately present and leaves a warming tinge towards the finish.

Bottle... Beautiful auburn (ish) color with a nice brown (ish) head. Wonderful aroma. Perfect bitterness (which I adore) and a bittersweet finish. This was my first try and it’s already an instant Top 10 for me. On second try, I decided to rate it higher. Double Bock is simply fantastic!

Clear, auburn body with a medium-sized, beige head. The aroma is light with berries, vienna malts, caramel and cookie dough. The flavor is lightly sweet with cookie dough, caramel and light berry. Medium body is soft but a bit thin with light carbonation. Decent.

12 oz, bottled 03-07. Clear, dark copper with very small head that quickly and completely disappears. Nose is caramel toffee with slight alcohol. Flavor is caramel, corn and pepper, with alcohol in the finish, all covered with a slightly sour tinge. Palate starts fairly smooth, thick and syrupy, then explodes with astringency. Overrated.

Clear rubi color. Small off-white head. Smocky aroma, alcoholic at the back, fruity of molasses and hoppy. Smooth flavor, bitter, strong, very alcoholic. Light body.

Good. I felt the amount of alcohol too much, maybe the rest of tastes are no so well balanced. I expected a little bit more of it.

Bottle. Cppper-red with creamy head. Sweet maltiness with a little bit of a metallic taste. Taste the alcohol on the finish. Ok, but maybe this just isnt my style.
