boilers (12), USA Jun 1, 2009 Aroma - great aroma of prune-like fruit and malty nose
App - rich but clear brown color, tan long-lasting head.
Flavor - malt forward, delicious dark fruit flavors, hops in the background
Palate - medium carbonation, body is just right, alcohol perceptible but not overwhelming
Overall - wonderful beer that’s hard to stop at one! You can’t beat the aroma and flavor. delnoche (214), Germany Jun 1, 2009 50cl bottle poured into a dimpled mug. Pours a beautiful amber brown with one finger tan head. Aroma is caramel, licorice, a bit of vanilla, and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is maple syrup, licorice, slight citrus, a bit of alcohol, and some hoppy bitterness in the end. Heavy and filling. Well balanced. A complex and interesting beer. Delicious. Jsawyer (282), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 1, 2009 Bottle. Poured turbid ruddy amber with a thick foamy tan head. Aroma was bubblegum, licorice, maple syrup, fig, and somewhat grassy and floral at the end. Flavor was orangey sweet, maple syrup, molasses, licorice, honey, and finishes nicely spicy and hoppy. Palate was robust and had a nice finishing burn. Overall reminded me somewhat of rum. Vertical Bacon Strips (875), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada May 29, 2009 Poured a deep rusty orange with an off-white head that died - leaving only a bare minimum residue clinging to the glass like a sugar coated margareta rim. A good ammount of minute particles are suspended within the beer. That being said, this is a really clear brew. Malts, caramel and weak molasses dominate the aroma with some over-sweet fruit hiding behind that. Quite complex in flavor it tasted like a weak tawny port with the usual well done yummy malts. Combined with the alcoholic strength is a soft rum taste. All the hard work that this beer does to keep you more than interested goes for naught if it warms too much - don’t let it happen. Enjoy, but enjoy at a steady pace. fluffy (229), Florida, USA May 23, 2009 given the other recent ratings, maybe i either wasnt in the mood for this tonight, or i just got a bad bottle. but i found it kinda blah. it pours dark ruby red with a decent ivory head. aroma is nicely spiced and malty. put the flavor didnt have much profile other than some malt flavor and a little alcohol burn. just not that interesting. not bad just ok. osb33 (16), Milwaukee, USA May 19, 2009 A solid doppelbock. The color is right on and so is the pour. The taste wasn’t what I expected, but nothing skunky or bad about this beer. A good drink overall. blklab2007 (943), Connecticut, USA May 14, 2009 bottle poured a caramel brown in color with a one finger foamy off white head. aroma has rich malt, light spiced yeast, dark ripe fruit, and a touch of sweetness. mouth feel is surprisingly light with low carbonation. dark fermented fruit, yeast, sweet malt, and a hint of bitter hops. interestingly rich for being so thin. unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA May 13, 2009 This pours deep amber with a fine white head and has a sweet & vinous nose full of raisin and dried plum scents. Initially tastes sweet and full-bodied, but as the flavour develops the sweetness is balanced by a nutty hop character, lots of malt, a hint of roastiness and a dry alcoholic bite. The finish is dry and gently bitter
