4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Appearance: an amber body with a spare frothy off white diminishing head. The body is sparkling in appearance. This beer is beautiful. It looks like a shot of a single malt.
Aroma: heavy smell of caramel and grain. Hints of toffee and roast follow afterward.
Taste: sweet caramel and honey start that slowly heats up with a cinnamon and pepper finish.
Overall: this beer is a great example of a doppelbock. This is one beer that is great to have at any given moment.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Alder Carr Farm Shop, Needham Market. Red with a light fizz and a large beige head that swiftly vanishes. Malt dominates up front with red berries and Weetabix coming through. Spice follows in a dry finish. That was all in the first sip. The second gulp reveals a big alcoholic hit with more berries- Ribena maybe. Overall though dry malt and sweet berries dominate and are well balanced against each other. It’s rather good actually, and I’m glad I picked it up.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
50cl bottle thanks to ruigo. Coppery brown color, almost no initial head. Medium to low carbonation, but very full-bodied and slightly creamy / oily. Aromas of caramel, dried fruits suchs as raisins and plums. Taste is sweet and coffee bitterness. Extremely long and sweet aftertaste. This doppel bock is such that almost replaces a meal...

Lovely traditional dark amber beer with bitter taste and alcoholic flavor. Much better drink it on tap at Bavaria

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Ruby red slightly hazy beer with big blonde head dissolving soon but leaving lacing. . Aroma and flavor have sweet bready malts, raisin, toffee, licorice, earth and herbs. Palate is full and with medium carbonation. Finish is long with a quite mild bite of bitterness, swet malts and some alcohol. A tasty but straightforward doppelbock, more like a strong dunkler bock without the roasted elements.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
✝ Bottle. Clear chestnut brown with a large slowly diminishing beige head. Rich malty notes of caramel, dark dried fruits, brown sugar, over ripe banana, light coffee like bitterness in the finish. Medium body, oily texture, medium carbonation, medium sweet and bitter. Little alcohol presence. Nothing overdone and quite pleasant. More a fan of eating than of fasting, but this could be an ok replacement for food in large enough quantities. ✝

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma of dates and raisins with a touch of bitter paper. Appears clear copper-brown, many streams of fizz rise to the top, white foam, no lace. Tastes sweet, of dates with a balancing paper like bitterness. Palate is fizzy, thick, nice. Overall, nice.

Thank you to monk Barnabas and the Paulaner Monks for guarding this wonderful recipe.
A Deep rick, thick, Doppelbock much deeper than Spaten optimator.
Not a reral summer beer unless you live in a area where it g ets cold in the summer like the North coast of California along the shoreline.
Would suggest tasting on its own to appreciate its character. Not a typical brew to match with food given the deep thick mouthful, richness
and deep warmth after enjoying a bottle. Does come in 6 packs as well as the larger pint plus size bottles which is great .
Would consider the brew version of a glass of port after drinking wine with dinner. That last pour for the night .. Might scare off puss Corona extra light drinking man, however don’t assume it will chase off the girls as a he man brew either. German girls at least don’t have a problem with bigger head.
A well deserved high 90’s on the rating for the quality over the decades.
makes a great present at Christmas for a fellow coworker who enjoys brew.
