COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Appearance: an amber body with a spare frothy off white diminishing head. The body is sparkling in appearance. This beer is beautiful. It looks like a shot of a single malt. Aroma: heavy smell of caramel and grain. Hints of toffee and roast follow afterward. Taste: sweet caramel and honey start that slowly heats up with a cinnamon and pepper finish. Overall: this beer is a great example of a doppelbock. This is one beer that is great to have at any given moment.

Pours a hazy pastel orange with subtle honey hues in it. A fat head of tan foam that is slow to fall. Nose is malty. Brown crusty bread. Rich dry malt that is expansive on the nose. As the beer warms a hint of chocolate comes forward. Light caramel sweetness underneath There is a dark fruit presence. Some prune, raisin and a faint whiff of alcohol. Taste is malty and rich. breaddy malt, dry and crisp. The middle of the drink is fruity. The edges have some grassy hops in them and the finish has a touch of medicinal alcohol. The alcohol dries out the palate and the malt lingers with a light bit of that caramel sweetness. A bit of bitterness comes from grass and form alcohol to finish this one dry. Lighter mouthfeel than some dopplebocks but medium and full enough. Slight warming from alcohol.

J’ aime beaucoup cette Doppelbock. Gout fort et prnoncé, très alcoolisé avec un arrière gout amer plaisant

0,5 bottle courtesy of a German colleague. Reddish brown, clear. Tick beige foamy head. Nose of coffee, German roasted malts, BBQ. Liquor feel in the mouth, sweet notes of amber malts with a hint of nuts. The hops invade the palate short after. The body is round and complex and the notes above develop after every sip. The best Paulaner (surprisingly)! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Malty aroma. Golden amber colour with no head. Nice caramel malt flavour with smooth finish. Heavy body with low carbonation.

From bottle poured into pint glass. Bottle purchased in Denver. For an above 7% ABV this is really good. I was also concerned about the transport and UV exposure, but the dark bottle did as it was asked. Highly recommended. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rich chocolate, dark plum, roasted flavors. Very tasty and rich brew, almost feels like an Abbey dubbel.

UPDATED: AUG 12, 2014 Drunk from a snifter and poured from a bottle brought back from Munich. Shared with family. The main distinctive taste in this beer is that of flaxseed, which manifests also in the aroma. It also tastes vaguely of wheat. It has a cheese-like aftertaste. The beer was unlucky enough to be followed by the Andechs Doppelbock Dunkel. On its own, I may have scored it higher. I have tried to compensate fairly for the circumstances. I would pair it with, I believe, certain scenes from Aladdin, or perhaps rice.

Apricot tart cream. Amber red about clear body. Some thin lacings. Aroma; malts, sour peaches, grassy hops, bread, caramel juice, yeast, booze, dough. Taste; confectionery stuff, strong caramel malts, fermented plum, bread, berries. Straight and solid on palate. Finishes with black caramel, confectioneries, cognac, redcurrant wine notes, bread - and tasty juice finish with still some bittterness in the final postludium. Good slow evening sipper.
