The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Pours an orange tinted amber with a small off-white head and little lacing. Aroma is caramel, toffee, bread, malt. The taste is similar to the smell with some alcohol coming on at the end.

Red amber coloured beer with a short-lasting off-white head. Aromas of dark bread, earthy potatoes, caramel, alcohol, herbs, fruits preserved in rum, cherry schnaps, some spices. Roast malt and fruit schnaps in taste. Overall warming. Fizzy carbonation, creamy texture, medium body.

Smooth taste of roasted harps. Not filling but satisfying. Sweet but not overwhelming. A tasty double Bock. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It is in my opinion, a beer appearing more to be a kind of smoked beer. There is a nice balance between hop and sweet malt. We could feel a bit the caramel or sugar. Neverthless I could not drink this beer all the night and it is a nice beer to finish a night.

Spicy and boozy. Caramel and a strange herbal sweetness to it. Warming and a bit boozy. Mid to high carbonation. Palate is sticky molasses and brandy. Pretty heavy stuff.

Bottle from Crafty Dog. A spicy bock, slight sweet tone to it, possibly after letting it sit. Caramel, wheat, barley and malt. Flavorful malt character. Kudos. Keeps it basic but memorable, also disguises the strength well.

The color is beautiful dark amber and the head is sparse, but 7.9% alcohol is generally not overwhelming foamy. The taste is sirup with lovely pleasant roasted malt notes. Light sweet fruit notes mingle well with dark overwhelming caramel. It is a malty beer, which has a crisp and leak volume.

Hints of vanilla, scotch, malty. Rather light color and body for a Doppelbock.

Kein besonders guter Doppelbock. Mahagonifarben und somit erstaunlich hell. Im Aroma Karamell, extrem malzig, kein Hopfen im Aroma.Auch im Geschmack "recht hell". Karamell, Toffee, süßes Malz, vielleicht ein wenig Röstmalz, Alkoholnote. Insgesamt okay, aber nichts besonderes.
