COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Mild pleasant aroma. Dark golden appearance. Somewhat sweet at first with no bitterness. Went surprisingly well with an Italian spiced lentil soup.

Bottle. Clear copper color liquid with big vanilla color head. Medium to full body, average carbonation. Melon aroma. A bit of caramel in taste. Very alcoholy and sweet. Taste like beer with sugary fruit syrup and vodka.

Awesome dark malt aromas with raisins and cherries. Beautiful mahogany color. Taste is sweet malt with a slight bitter hint from the hops. Well done.

Another great Paulaner classic, the archetypical Doppelbock as invented by the Franciscan monks of Paula and inspiring a whole string of Doppelbocks to bear a name ending in -ator. Tasted from can. Sticky, creamy head, warm deep copper colour; fascinating aroma of caramel, mango, tomato, biscuit, toasted bread. Fruity taste even though this is bottom-fermented, smooth and slick, slight smokiness and toastedness, caramelly, liqueurish, warming alcohol on the finish nearly becoming astringent. A very interesting tasting experience I will not easily forget, as this was my first encounter with this great German lager style.

330mL bottle BB 05/15 Another beer had on numerous occasions, yet haven’t rated...madness. Anyhow, pale ruby body, decent clarity, holds a small beige head. Nice rich aroma; toasted nuts, lots of dark caramel, cocoa, and subtle dark fruit undertones. Texture is quite interesting - not quite thick & rich, not quite dry, carbonation somewhat higher than expected. Palate delivers some upfront burnt toffee with plenty of nutty malt & bitter cocoa. Plum undertones lead into a rather dry finish with a reasonably high bitterness and lingering minerality. A nice beer, perhaps lacking the punch of the best in the style.

Crimson on the eye, medium white head. Malt, caramel, and notes of alcohol on the nose. Smokey, with caramel, cellar and malt on the tongue. Warn malty finish. Good.

From 12 oz bottle at the 2014 German Bierfest (ATL). Deep orange amber body with asomewhat weak head. Nice caramel malt nose with light alcohol esters. Flavor follows but has more strength. Depth and complexity. Mildly bitter. Excellent version of style.

Pours a hazy pastel orange with subtle honey hues in it. A fat head of tan foam that is slow to fall. Nose is malty. Brown crusty bread. Rich dry malt that is expansive on the nose. As the beer warms a hint of chocolate comes forward. Light caramel sweetness underneath There is a dark fruit presence. Some prune, raisin and a faint whiff of alcohol. Taste is malty and rich. breaddy malt, dry and crisp. The middle of the drink is fruity. The edges have some grassy hops in them and the finish has a touch of medicinal alcohol. The alcohol dries out the palate and the malt lingers with a light bit of that caramel sweetness. A bit of bitterness comes from grass and form alcohol to finish this one dry. Lighter mouthfeel than some dopplebocks but medium and full enough. Slight warming from alcohol.

0,5 bottle courtesy of a German colleague. Reddish brown, clear. Tick beige foamy head. Nose of coffee, German roasted malts, BBQ. Liquor feel in the mouth, sweet notes of amber malts with a hint of nuts. The hops invade the palate short after. The body is round and complex and the notes above develop after every sip. The best Paulaner (surprisingly)! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
