COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

I may be biased but I love this Dopplebock. This is probably the first of my ’Best Beers’. Probably 15 years ago, and I really haven’t found a better standard. I loved it then when I found it and love it now after years of tasting new beers. It’s probably the heaviest ’alcohol’ tasting bock I’ve had but I like that. I don’t think it’s too much, but you’ll notice it. I found Spaten Optimator and Full Sail (90 day) Bock (Bock on box and Dopplebock on label ;) ) to be fairly similar in taste, but each getting less alcohol taste as listed.

Number 5 in our doppelbock blind tasting. Pours a light orange-read with modest head but abundant carbonation. Alcohol is way too forward (hard to believe this is less than 8%) and that totally ruins it for me.

A great doppelbock. Pours a hazy, dark amber with a thin, dense beige head. The aroma is malty with big toffee, nutty caramel malts and earthen notes. Alot of yeast flavour with fruity notes of apple and pear combining with the sugary malt. A rich and heavy flavour with a warm, boozy finish and slight bitterness. Overall, a good heavy brew great for a cold or rainy day.

Color marrón oscuro. Espuma no muy persistente. El aroma es muy suave, de maltas. Sabor dulce de maltas, frutas maduras, algo de alcohol. El final es ligeramente amargo, con un toque de regaliz. Buena doppelbock. Muy bebible.

Piana średnio obfita, głównie średnio pęcherzykowa, raczej nietrwała, kolor lekko beżowy. Barwa piwa rubinowa, klarowna. Koronka uboga. Dominuje aromat palonego słodu, odrobina karmelu. W smaku gorzkie, mocno palone, jest jakaś słodycz gdzieś z tyłu, którą ciężko mi zdefiniować. Goryczka ściągająca, lekko zalegająca. Na języku szerokie, wysycenie średnie. Lekko czuć alkohol.

330ml bottle at home in a tulip glass. The aroma was toffee, apple and sugary sweetness. The flavour is sweet malt and yet lightly sour at the same time. I found an oaky note not sure if this beer ever saw oak but it tasted that way. Top drawer.
