COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Pours a nice amber with a quickly fading medium head. Not usually a fan of doppelbocks, but this has changed my opinion. Has a bit more going on than your average American doppel. The balance of malts and sweetness was refreshing. Aroma was rather weak but a nice smoky malt.

Brown colour opaque and super malty smell. Chewy palate, sweet, big caramel, a hit of warming alcohol at the end, drinks like a meal.

Medium frothy off-white head with good retention. Hazy brownish amber. Weak aroma, roasted sugar. Taste is roasted sugar and spicy (clove) with some alcohol warmth. Bitter finish and some crispy palate. Full body.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2016 Bottle 330ml. Served at cellar temperature. Pours a clear copper with a red tint. Head is off-white, averaged sized and lasts well in the glass. Aroma is of lightly cooked brown sugar, dark plums (ripe), dried cranberries, toasted brown bread, chocolate, caramel and a pinch of cinnamon. Flavour is exceptionally smooth (especially considering the ABV) with a light bitterness, lightly toasted malts, wholegrain bread, caramel, brown sugar, raisins, tea leaves, a touch of chocolate and a (white) peppery finish. Medium bodied with medium carbonation and a good length, warming finish. An amazing Doppelbock in every sense – not to mention suburb value for money!

Looks about coppery brown with no head coming up. Strong malty flavors and a recognizable alcohol bite to sum things up. Pretty weak in the middle, a little unwanted watery hole there. Starts off with a good malty base with bready notes and honey. Finishes with warm alcohol to draw the line. Decent doppelbock.

I bought the bottle just because I was out of bock beer and I liked the label. Glad i did! Color is a slightly hazy amber an i has a big creamy head. A bit of lacing. Aroma of bread, caramel and maybe citrus peel? Taste is sweet with notes of burned malt, dark chocolate, bread and caramel. Finish is a little bitter. Just enough to invite another sip. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
