The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Bottle from Alder Carr Farm Shop, Needham Market. Red with a light fizz and a large beige head that swiftly vanishes. Malt dominates up front with red berries and Weetabix coming through. Spice follows in a dry finish. That was all in the first sip. The second gulp reveals a big alcoholic hit with more berries- Ribena maybe. Overall though dry malt and sweet berries dominate and are well balanced against each other. It’s rather good actually, and I’m glad I picked it up.

50cl bottle thanks to ruigo. Coppery brown color, almost no initial head. Medium to low carbonation, but very full-bodied and slightly creamy / oily. Aromas of caramel, dried fruits suchs as raisins and plums. Taste is sweet and coffee bitterness. Extremely long and sweet aftertaste. This doppel bock is such that almost replaces a meal...

Lovely traditional dark amber beer with bitter taste and alcoholic flavor. Much better drink it on tap at Bavaria

Ruby red slightly hazy beer with big blonde head dissolving soon but leaving lacing. . Aroma and flavor have sweet bready malts, raisin, toffee, licorice, earth and herbs. Palate is full and with medium carbonation. Finish is long with a quite mild bite of bitterness, swet malts and some alcohol. A tasty but straightforward doppelbock, more like a strong dunkler bock without the roasted elements.

✝ Bottle. Clear chestnut brown with a large slowly diminishing beige head. Rich malty notes of caramel, dark dried fruits, brown sugar, over ripe banana, light coffee like bitterness in the finish. Medium body, oily texture, medium carbonation, medium sweet and bitter. Little alcohol presence. Nothing overdone and quite pleasant. More a fan of eating than of fasting, but this could be an ok replacement for food in large enough quantities. ✝

Aroma of dates and raisins with a touch of bitter paper. Appears clear copper-brown, many streams of fizz rise to the top, white foam, no lace. Tastes sweet, of dates with a balancing paper like bitterness. Palate is fizzy, thick, nice. Overall, nice.
