COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Damn fine brew! Looking at it you’d think it was a bitter dark, dark ale. No so. Salvator is sweet and very, very smooth. It has a nice body and leaves a chocolaty finish. Great with Steak Au Poive or anything heavy on the seasoning. Buy this now.

One of the very best double bocks made.

I love this beer. My wife says it tastes like soy sauce, and it is May and it says it’s a seasonal. I wonder if it tastes different because of this. Nonetheless, with sushi or without, this beer is great. Does taste salty, though... Recommendation: drink this beer at room temperature (not fully cold anyway). Taste it!

This is said to be one of the most legendary beers in the world ... once poured you can see why ... the sheer beauty of the amber-garnet colour is mindboggling ... the smell is full, butter, malt and candied fruits ... the taste is of almost barley-wine like strenght with dominating english toffee and darjeeling ending in a long moreish light bitter finish .... This is truly a great beer, albeight not for the uninitiated ... as it is a seasonal beer for spring I’ll try another one in 6 months (and let you know) ....

Firstly, I’m an IPA guy...a "hop-head", if you will. I generally dislike lagers, pilseners, and even most bocks because of their relative lack of flavor and style. That being said, I LOVE this beer. It truly defines the doppelbock...definitely one of my top five "desert island" beers. PS...my character on FFXI is named "Salvator" (Ifrit server), which obviously proves my dedication.

One of my all time faves, the standard by which all double bocks are judged. Malty candy like citrusy aroma. Amber color with minimal head. Taste is intense bready maltiness with hints of toffee. Palate is chewy and complex. Finish is incredibly smooth hoppiness.

WOW i love this beer. I am partial to brown beers, but this one I could drink anytime anywhere for any reason! Love this beer, its especially great at the Paulaner Restaurant because of the amazing Bavarian style with the Oktoberfest touch. Awesome, if your in southwest germany go there!! Love this stuff, thinking about bringing a case back to US when I come back!

UPDATED: APR 18, 2011 Very characteristic doppelbock alcoholic malt bomb. Pretty intense, complex caramel malt flavor, definitely a beer to savor and, most likely, not one overindulge in.

Definitely a brew going into my BHOF (Beer Hall of Fame)!! This brew pours a rich dark red body that sports a thick foamy head that lends well with the brew for quite a while. Scents of strong malt, coffee (maybe a rich espresso) followed with rich malty flavors blended with hints of orange or cloves with very little presence of the taste of alcohol. It has a nice thick feel to it.

This one comes with the weight of expectation--in my ten years of legality, I have somehow not imbibed this epitome of the genre...lighter brown orange effervescent body... white head is thin but bubbly and symmetrical...sweet, malty aroma with a lesser sense of soft hops... a soft palate with warming effects around the tongue--little fiz--surprisingly drinkable for a doppel... malt is pleasant, not intrusive; in fact, astonishingly tastes like a full-bodied, trumped-up lager... crisp and clean, with sugars appropriately placed... the name may precede itself, but the taste follows through--and I saved this bock sample for Good Friday... "liquid bread" indeed, and a little bit of soul food after a chocolate-free Lenten journey...
