Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

The beer pours a nice deep copper/red colour with a fine 3 quater inch head which dissapates down to a lace on top. The aroma of this beer is excellent..i loved the strong malt..very very nice. taste is warm and rich..but for such a stong beer..not too "alcoholic"..very smooth on the tongue with a nice lingering aftertaste in the back of the mouth. Warming as it goes down This is a very drinkable Double bock..one would need to be careful of how much is consumed because I am sure this will get you tipsy very quickly..but overall I loved this beer..

Good example of a Dopple bock.. Aroma is malt heavy with toffee and carmel notes, No hops to style. Alcohol warmth and scent. Amber color with solid tan head...Flavor is much the same as aroma....Perhaps carbonation hig for style but not carbonic bite. Full body. Cheers

Intense malty aroma. Crystal clear red/orange colour with a quickly diminishing head. Rich sweet malty flavour with small hints of spice. Drinks really nicely but the bottle is too small.

Very nice deep amber color with a super creamy-like head thats frothy and very tight. Looked like a lighter whipped cream and was light tan in color and nearly three fingers high. The lace clings in large patches that remain a long time on the glass. Smell is a very buttery roasted malt, like slightly burnt popcorn, but thicker. Is also somewhat sweet and toffeeish. Taste is super subtle of toffee, roasted malt, sweet, and is kinda creamy/silky smooth, a little bit chewy, with a lingering dryness that settles in and goes into the finish, which gets lighter. The finish, again, reminded me of that dry mouth feeling you get from eating dry popcorn. I really liked the feel of this beer, its so complex and layered. The taste is well rounded and has great subtle complexities as well. Absolutely drinkable and enjoyable. Highly recommended as far as dopplebocks go.

lots of malt and caramel on the nose, fantastic ruby/copper colour, huge malt flavour with lots of caramel, hints of pepper and citrus. fantastic creamy, buttery mouthfeel with long lingering bitterness which complements the malty flavours superbly.

This beer was rich. A dark brown/amber color and an off-white head. Heavily malted beer with a strong, sweet finish.

Lots of flavors, none overpowering. I tried this side by side with Boont Amber, and compared to that the flavors seemed mild. Anyone who likes 1554 should love this. I’ve been buying Salvator by the 6 pack for 3 years, bought a 6 pack recently that tasted bad! In every other example I would rate it at least 4 out of 5!
