Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

I was expecting a bit more body to this doppelbock. It is good nonethless, but a bit too smooth for the style. Pours almost pure black with a nice head.

Pours clear brown with a decent sized tan head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt. Taste of sweet malt, dark fruits and a bit of alchohol in the end. Not bad. Not too cloying, but sweet. Hey Grim, I bet you rated this higher then me!

12 ounce bottle- poured a rich amber-gold with a fair, but short-lived head. Aroma was dried fruit. Taste was dark fruit and very slightly floral. Very nice. Big points for the silky smooth palate. A good one.

Bottle. Dark ruby, dissipating head. Sweet aroma of burnt sugar and caramel malts. Sweet spicy flavour of dark fruits and dark sugar with a distinct alcohol sting. Very nice cookie dough finish. Like a less refined Belgian, but great value for money.
