COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Bottle. Recommended by BevMo employee when I complained that they were out of Celebrator. Poured a dark ruby brown color, with a light white head that quickly left. Nose of malt, maybe lightly roasted. Tastes pretty good, lighter that I would like, with a medium body. Finishes well, but leaves me desiring more.

33cl bottle, hazy orange color, small off white head, caramel aroma, raisins, roasted and honey notes, brown sugar sweet flavor, full body, finish with caramel and grass, very nice surprise I thought it was a simple and cheap beer (0.99€). In pratica pensavo di aver preso una birra ignorante da scolare guardando un paio di puntate di south park e invece mi trovo una dolciona che sembra un blend tra una belga e una stout. E beh. Se ste doppelbock son tutte come questa ne voglio altre.

Absolutely delicious. Luckily it is 7.9% and the alcohol is noticeable or I’d drink more of these! Very good heavy malty flavors and good nutty malty roasty aroma. Nice brew all around.

500cc Bottle. Light brown to orange with a nice white head. Aroma is cereal, caramel but taste is alcohol and rather dry with a bitter finish. The body is medium with medium to low carbonation. Very good overall but not my favourite dopplebock.

Nice brown colour with beige head. Nice malty sweet aroma. The taste is sweet malts with warming alcohol.

Amber colour, lasting beige head. Intense aroma of bubblegum, banana, caramel, alcohol, raisins and plums. Starts off slightly sweet, to give way to some unexpected bitterness, with some burnt notes. Finishes with a malty and alcoholic aftertaste. The body is rather heavy, yet smooth. Quite a complex beer, one of the better ones I’ve had so far.

(Bottle) This is a tough one to rate. There’s very little aroma and it’s not very attractive. The taste is really nice but maybe slightly too sugary sweet? I do like it and I think it’s a pretty nice beer, but I feel like it’s missing some dark malt bitterness.

12 oz. bottle from BevMo. Brown-orange color with a pillowy head. The aroma is molasses, brown sugar and toast. No floral hop presence. Just richness, sweet and balanced against the alcohol. Complex, yet subtle, the flavor is dark raisins, burnt coffee, hazelnuts and root beer with an earthy undertone. Slick feel, oily and very smooth with a neutral finish. Paulaner’s got this. Pretty definitive.

Seriously unexpected bubblegum aroma. Are the hops coming out to play on this Doppel? Beautiful malt. Rather ugly to look at, soapy beige. A rather fine beer. I guess they perfected it >100 years ago, so why mess with it. A nice beverage, but plenty of room for it to be a better beer, regardless of style. Nicely dry for a 8% doppel. This would have been epic in the 1900s.

Bottle from Trinkgut in Goch. The beer has dark brown/red color and a nice cream colored head with a lot of bubbles. The aroma is malty, with tones of dark fruits, roasted malts and the sweetness of caramel. The taste is light sweet with tones of chocolate and a little alcohol which makes it really intense. Further tones of roasted malts and some hop notes in the end. The finish is warming by the alcohol and to change in a nice bitterness from the used hops. Wonderfull this doppelbock, one of the best so far.

Bottle. Pours brown with orange hues and white head. Aroma is floral, nutty, cereal, grains, vanilla, fruity, earthy, figs. Taste is medium-bodied, silky, smooth, easy, low carbonation, a bit dirty, bitter finish. Overall, good.
