3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Lovely amber colour, not much of a head tho’ Big malty nose ...nice! Likewise, the palate bursts with complex malty flavours, sweet, but not cloying, a delicious, full flavoured brew, unfortunately NOT served in the unique glass. Peckhams, Clerk St, Edinburgh...an excellent range.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JAN 28, 2007 Alcohol and sugary sweetness in the aroma. Light brown with a fairly thin head for the style. Medium malt character that goes sweet in the middle with some metallic tinged alcohol in the finish.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours like a soft drink in the glass, with bubbles clinging along the inside of the tulip. The head was bubbly and frothy.
Aroma is metallic and alcoholic, not very apealing at all. Huge alcohol flavours in the palate, it really dominates the beer. The rest of the flavours are metallic, with some caramel malts in there too. The finish is like that of a strong rum, with little bitterness and more alcohol burn. Fairly poor for a belgian strong in my opinion.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice amber color, no floaties (filtered?), thin cream head. Sweet malt smell, burnt marshmallow, maybe toffee. Nice weird bitterness. It has a unique smoky taste, slightly tinny. Nice beer. Very drinkable.

I saw this in a few bars in Belgium and decided that I HAD to try it - what was with the test-tube style glass?? It is high-gravity so after a few you are ready to do a few science experiments. Without the glass I guess it is just another Belgian ale.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a rich amber with a head that seems to grow in puffs over time. Sweet fruity aroma and full, sweet flavour. Quite good. The glass is a tourist trap :-)

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Poured in my favorite glass, the Kwak glass. Clear copper/amber with a huge head. The taste is slightly smokey, sweet and malty with a lot of caramel.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft in Kwak glass w/ holder. Almost clear copper/amber pour with light off-white head. Some lacing as it went down. Darker fruits and caramel provided a significant amount of sweetness in the aroma and flavor... these became more pronounced as it warmed. Some alcohol and faint grapes noted as well on the finish. Almost sticky on the palate. Very good and nice presentation.
