Mostly lightly sweet and yeasty, with very delicate spices and fruits. Needed some extra spice and something to give the beer some zest. A little boring, but very drinkable. puggy211 (602), cordova, Tennessee, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Mar 6, 2009 Beer looks a weird colour in the thin, tall glass, but it maintains the carbonation nicely and had reasonable head retention. Lots of interesting aromas - toffee, vanilla, cinnamon, clove, creaming soda, caramel and alcohol. Flavour is somewhat bland (at least for a Belgian) with a mild bitterness and warming alcoholic dryness. It’s OK, but there’s a lot better. RR: Had it again and found it thin, tomatoey and overly alcoholic. Pretty sweet too. The more I drink this the less I like it.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 24, 2009 Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of cookie, roasted and caramel, light herbs and resin for the hops, light to moderate leather smell for the yeast, with background notes of wine, toffee, allspice, mace and alcohol. Head is between rocky and creamy, white, with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is clear reddish brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, between oily and creamy and has a lively carbonation. It finishes lightly alcoholic. The rounded flavors and the complex aromas make this an excellent Belgian Strong Ale. Warming it improves it immensely. craftycarl21 (601), South Hero, Vermont, USA

Flavor is actually much sweeter, with added fruit notes and some candied sugar, along with the consistent caramel taste. Nice sweet palate, but not cloying, quite a nice brew. ericandersnavy (1150), crossroads, Texas, USA
