Bought myself the Kwak gift set with a glass and four bottles. I'd had this before in Australia in a regular glass and in Belgium in the real glass. Takes a bit of practice to pour right - I didn't do as well this time as last and didn't get enough head. Dark amber red, good lacing on the glass. Smells of dark fruits, cherries with a sweet funk too. It hints at the famous caramel and toffee. Taste is sweet toffee and fruity brandy. Nicely malty and a bit of a pleasant alcohol warmth at the end. Not the strongest mouthfeel. The sweet flavours mature and warm on the palate. Actually a much better beer than I remembered; I've even heard it be called 'unremarkable' before! Every bit the Flanders beer. Uses the same Bosteels house yeast as the Karmeliet. Always worth getting in the real glass if you can ever get it! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours dark amber with a modest, creamy white head. The bold aromas are instantly recognizable: molasses, anise, banana. Much lighter body than comparable Belgians; somewhat too sweet for my taste, though, and very alcoholic. Great look, however, and it earns appearance points for its innovative glass.

Bière assez bonne qui se rapproche des classiques tout en conservant le goût d’une bière de qualité

Belle bière d’un blond ambré. Alcool et malts bien présents, un classique efficace belge. N’oublions pas de mentionner son verre très typique !

Malty, sweet almost syrupy Belgian beer with caramel tones, amber colour and white head.

This first thing that attracts you is the glass itself. Smells pretty sweet and tastes fruity and very original

Pours a hazy dark copper to red body with an off-white head that laces the glass well. Quite strong aroma with pleasant notes of Belgian yeast, spices, honey and dust. There flavours are a bit too weak and is too much dominated by alcohol. There are however nice notes of Belgian yeast, spices and in the back there are dried fruits, vanilla and caramel. Moderate sweet and moderate bitter taste. Medium body, dry texture and moderate carbonation. Without the Kwak glass this is a quite ordinary Belgian strong ale, IMHO.
