Full-bodied Belgian Specialty Ale. Amber in color with beautiful foam and slightly sweet, seductive malt character. Rich, satisfying Belgian experience.

intresting... like the name. A fairly average belgian ale (which means it’s in the top quarter of all beers).

Tastes and smells like a holiday wine. Pretty standard belgian. Has a slightly burnt aftertaste which I found refreshing and enjoyable. Once done with it I felt like it might have been a bit watery.

Not bad. I may have a bit of prejudice in favour of the Trappists when sampling a BSA, but this is a good solid beer with a lot of flavour.

This beer pours a dark copper color with minimal head and minimal lacing. The aroma contains strong scents of fruits, like most Belgian ales with a slight undertone of alcohol. The taste is very sweet and the fruity taste is very apparent, but it is oddly somewhat sour. Not too sour, but just enough to be different. They do a good job of masking the alcohol in the taste. The mouthfeel is very pleasing as the fruits and sweetness is very clear. Drinkability is not so good on this one because it is so sweet and sour that I can't see myself enjoying more than one. Overall, a very good Belgian beer that I enjoyed profusely.

UPDATED: JUL 18, 2003 I expected more from this famous beer and its even more famous glass. The aroma was actually a nice malty caramel to announce a sweet relaxing beer. I don't know if it's cause I had a Westmall Tripel perhaps 30 minutes before the kwak, but it tasted somehow like a weak scotch ale some mysterious spoilsport would have added a little water in. You still feel the alcohol, but it's just not surrounded by a reasearched melodic complexity. I had heard already that this beer had somewhat lost some since a couple of years though.

Nice amber color. Very yeasty and sweet. Lacked good flavor components. I found this beer to be bland.

Sweet, malty aroma, with notes of light brown sugar, milky caramel, a very faint musty herbal characteristic and hints of banana, pear and bubblegum. Light amber in color, some particulates, with a very foamy, thick, lasting off-white head. Lightly bready, sweet malt and caramel up front, followed by a brief spicy bitterness, and with some fruity yeast, sugar and very faint alcohol on the finish. Full body and with an effervescent, lightly creamy mouthfeel and sticky palate. Lacking a bit in complexity and balance.

Interesting beer...It was not really to my liking however and far too strong in every angle I tried to look at it. It was in my books the Dr Frankenstein of all beers!
