Pour on tap at the brewery, dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of cocoa powder, roasted malt, slightly acidic malt, hints of dark fruit, hints of coffee, slight red fruit. Taste was a mix of red fruit, caramel, toffee into some roast, slight roast, finishing fairly roasted, slightly bitter.

12 oz bottle my brother brought back for me from a recent Michigan trip. Pours an inky black with a small chocolate colored head that faded quickly and left some spotty lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt and grains. Taste is a bit grainy up front with roasted malts, cocoa, dark chocolate and coffee. Slight hint of hop resin on the back end. Quick, dry finish of roasty malt and dark chocolate. Medium bodied, thin and slick texture, high carbonation. Rather sweet and definitely smooth. But for an oatmeal stout the mouthfeel is way too thin. Not bad at all, actually quite good. But the thinness and high carbonation are hard to get past.

Bottle: Deep brown pour, zeroing in on fully black towards the center. Little white chunks of sediment float around. Foamy, big, & bubbly tan head sinks quickly. Weird looking. Aroma leads with thick notes of cocoa, creamy oats, black licorice, & moderate anise. Deep cocoa syrup flavors emerge on the first sip; hints of cream & sugar underneath. Mild roasted malts, faint milkiness, & a bit of anise towards the back-end. Finishes like you just ate a bittersweet cocoa bar. Slightly creamy mouth feel, but a little thin in body. Not bad.

Pours a rich, dark and thick glass out of the bottle. The aroma is nutty and malty. The body has notes of coffee, walnuts, earth and malt. The finish is slightly bitter, but not overpowering. A decent stout for a cold winter night.

Thanks Ian. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light speckled spider web lacing sticking to the sides of the glass. The smell was super sweet chocolate in a dry sort of way. Light vanilla enters in after a minute of warming. The taste was a really nice blend of the previously mentioned sweet flavors and then letting a roastiness come in nicely. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was there but nothing overbearing. The aftertaste had a long sweet chocolate vanilla which lead to a dry sweet chocolate finish. Overall, this was a really nice sweet stout that made a fantastic dessert by itself.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 2 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, oats, toast, light char, dark bread, light herbal, and roasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, oats, and light earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, oats, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, light char, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, oats, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, light char, herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of dark/roasted malt, oats, and light herbal hop flavors; with a good roast bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy, smooth, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice oatmeal stout. All around good robustness and complexity of dark/roast malt and oat flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Pour from a 12oz bottle. Inky dark brew with two fingers of tan head. Aroma is a mixed bag - delicious dark chocolate and rich coffee, but also hints of sour fruit that combine unpleasantly with the burnt roasted grains. Its a ’gotcha’ that pops up in the early swallow and impinges on what would be an others most excellent aroma. Taste is sweet roasted malts at the start, burnt grains simulating chocolate and a nice strong coffee flavor. The oatmeal lens a richness that emerges mid swallow and conveys the overall sweet / roasted / burnt flavors. The palate is both rich and light, exceptionally well balanced. Finishes remarkably clean and dry with just a whiff of lingering roasted grain and dark coffee flavor, but with just a tad of the sourness that impinges on the aroma. A really first rate brew.
