Tap. Black-brown. Spotted lacing. Slightly smokey nose. Tastes more of burnt malt and a touch of coffee than vanilla.

Pour from a 12oz bottle. Inky dark brew with desnse tan head and excellent head persistence. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, burnt toast and sweet malt. Taste is sweet malt and burnt grain at the start with just a natural transition to the burnt taste in the finish. Much more vanilla on the nose than flavor. Flavor is burnt / toasted grain taste with light coffee or dark chocolate undertones. Comes close to a light smoke/burnt grain taste. Rich palate and mouthfeel. Jake’s Vanilla Bean Porter. ABV 6.3% ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, dark bread, herbal, light vanilla, and roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of dark/roasted malt notes with light vanilla presence; with solid strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, vanilla, toast, dark bread, herbal, and roast/toast earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, roast, vanilla, toast, dark bread, light herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good balance of dark/roasted malt and moderate vanilla flavors with light hop presence; with solid complexity and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice vanilla porter. Good balance and robustness of dark/roasted malt and moderate vanilla flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Bottle from Cbuk1413. Pours black with tall tan head. Lots of vanilla in the aroma - more pronounced than I can ever remember. Lives up to its namesake! The flavor is packed with vanilla and some cocoa accents. A bit of coffee in the background. You definitely want to let this one warm up a bit....the flavors develop nicely. Quite good.

Pour from a 12oz bottle. Inky dark brew with desnse tan head and excellent head persistence. Aroma of burnt toast and sweet malt. Taste is sweet malt and burnt grain at the start with just a natural transition to the burnt taste in the finish. Not picking up much vanilla and the burnt / toasted grain taste doesnít take on many tones of coffee or dark chocolate, though comes close to a light smoke taste (not that close). Rich palate and mouthfeel, very enjoyable. Full name of what I drank is Jakeís Vanilla Bean Porter. ABV 6.3%

On tap at Paw Paw the day after Dark Lord Day 2012. Had a few pints of this one. Pours near-black with a nice mocha head and a few spots of lacing on the way down. The nose carries some initial vanilla followed up with chocolate and roast. Milk chocolate, which paired nicely with the vanilla. More complexity as it warmed. Flavor was nice and vanilla forward without being too over the top or seeming artificial. Good malt background. Body is medium with lowish carbonation and a bit of chewiness. Really nice brew. Glad I was able to try this one.
