There was a time when alcohol was forbidden in America, creating a void filled only by the times’ most daring entrepreneurs. For this unique beer, we’ve proudly joined forces with Templeton Rye Spirits in Templeton, Iowa and their famous prohibition-era whiskey. Aged 12 months in Templeton Rye casks, this red ale hints of whiskey, vanilla and oak. Drink inconspicuously or boldly share it with friends.

22 oz bottle shared by me with Gus and ebone1988. The pour is a beautiful dark ambery red color with a thin white collar and some decent lace. The aroma is really good. There is a lot of malts and a strong rye presence. It's good. Light spice and a decent vanilla happening. The flavor is a little more booze related. It's malty and light with a good malt profile and a nice rye spice. There is a light vanilla and a nice oak presence. The mouth feel is light and well carbonated with a lingeringly smooth malty vanilla finish. It's a legit amber ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared with koleminer20 and Gus. Aroma is whiskey barrel, some roasted malt, floral. Appearance is amber/red, off white head. Taste is caramel malt, sweet, barrel, vanilla, lots of whiskey. Mouthfeel is thin, medium carbonation , medium body. Overall, it’s decent but not great.

Poured from bomber into snifter. They say this was aged for a year in templeton barrels but it sure doesn't taste like it. The bourbon doesn't come through strong enough or with any consistency. It just seems to be sort of randomly layered onto the base beer, which is also disappointingly bland. I don't know what's supposed to be going on here flavor wise. It's boring, uneven, and muddled. Not well done.

Bottle @ the rake dungeon, big thanks to pepsiedcan and the state of Iowa for the cred boost. Pours a touch hazy, ruby red/orange appearance with a thin light brown head. Heavy whiskey and booze in the nose. Lots of grainy wood, tannins, vanilla, and oak to go along with some caramel and grassy hops. A little twangy. Pretty high booze. The flavor is also pretty overwhelmed by the barrel character. Lots of vanilla and oak. Kind of thin. Moderately high sweetness and moderate bitterness. Warm finish. Ehhh.

This is a sweet, red ale aged in Templeton Rye barrels. My aversion to red ales is obliterated when the nasty nickel flavors are masked by rye whiskey.

Red light head. Some lace. Wisky aroma, sweet caramel malts, a little barleywine ish but not hoppy. Some stale or oxidized malt aroma. Wisky in taste, some dry woodiness, sweet malts but overpowerd by a dry kind of tartness, alcohol notes. Its kinda like a shot of wisky in an amber. Im not a wisky drinker but it ultimately reminds me of my Grampas basement when I was a kid an sneaking around in his liquor bar and smelling all the bottles he had. Good amber and barrel age forward if you like that. Not getting any Belgian funkiness like the rest of their beers so this must have a neutral strain of yeast. Not getting much vanilla though which I was looking forward to ,just caramel malts.

Large format bottle. Pours a dark red with quickly disappating head. Aroma is whiskey, vanilla and wood. Taste is similar, dry and woody. Pretty solid, sweet caramel comes in late.

Bomber at binkies. If you like rye whiskey, this is your beer. I am a fan of this but not for everyone. Templeton lingers, thankfully. Great combo, will check in with these guys more often. Cheers!
