3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle (dated 10/9/13) pours clear pale bright gold with 2 finger foamy head. Nose is piney, fruity, with just a hint of grain. Mouthfeel has some maltiness and is overall a little more full bodied than some pilsners. Taste is bitter grassy pine, evergreen, with some light fruity notes. Finish is crisp, lasting bitter pine, grains, a little lemon, some traces of hay. Very refreshing, super sessionable but without sacrificing flavor. Quite a nice pilsner.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a slightly hazy pale yellow with a medium white head. Aroma has mild tangy citrus...orangey...and some grassiness...a hint of earthy tea. Flavor is more earthy and bitter...not much citrus or grassiness to speak of. Mouthfeel is medium and very level with a dry earthy/bitter/rindy finish.

Vähän kirpeä, mutta pitää ollakin jos nimi on fresh cut. Ei täysin mahdoton. Mutta aika ruma.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Somewhat cloudy gold beer with a billowing bright white head. Citrusy nose of grapefruit pith, pine resin, and fresh lemon. Flavor is like a mild IPA since it is juicy and hop forward, but the aftertaste is much more mild with a bit of sweet grain following. A lingering waxy bitterness remains on top through the finish. Lots of flavor and easy to drink with a light mouth feel and crisp carbonation, this is a winner hybrid of a beer.

(Rating #6430)

If a pilsner is made with American hops but still has Old World pilsner character, is it really a pilsner? I guess that depends on how much of a style purist you are. Me, I like beers that taste good styles be damned and Peak Organic Fresh Cut Pilsner is good example of what I mean. It has an overt modern American taste and aroma due to its use of – dare I say trendy – hops. It tastes and drinks like a pilsner to me.
I poured a 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass. It was bottled on 2/9/15 and cost $2.60 ($0.22 per ounce).
Appearance: Pale maize hue with a cloudy body though carbonation is still visible. Pours to an average-sized, white foamy head which retains and laces pretty well.
Smell: A clean, bright citrusy aroma with a floral background as well. Pilsner malt is still prominent.
Taste: Right off the rip, there’s a familiar spicy sensation to the palette akin to that of European pilsners made with Noble hops. Though I suppose the flavor is better described as grassy than spicy (hence the name). Lemonpeel is also quite prominent, though that seems to be a combination of hops and the raw pilsner malt. It has a bit of a cracker flavor as well. Mild bitterness through the middle, though the finish is equally as good with a delicious taste of citrus and melon fruit. These flavor combinations are rare for a pilsner, though this does drink like a true lager and not simple a “lagerized” pale ale or IPA.
Drinkability: I was a bit surprised to found out Peak Organic Fresh Cut Pilsner is only 4.6% ABV as it has the body of something stronger. The mouthfeel is not paper thin or watery in any way. Crisp to be sure, but it still has a sense of weight and viscosity. Refreshing across the palate and leaves a flowery hop aftertaste that’s dry and stoic. Now if only this were available in cans as it’d make a great session beer in the summer.

2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 6/20
Pours slightly hazy medium yellow with a white lingering head. Nose is hops. Taste is a slight sweetness with hop bitterness in the lingering aftertaste. Prefer less hoppy pilsners.
