Hop Noir is a delectable Black IPA, dripping with piney, aromatic Centennial hops. The malt base is dark and rich, anchored by organic black malt. This provides a strong foundation for the extravagant kettle hopping and dry-hopping that this beer experiences. Enjoy with a night-light.

a nice full nose with chocolate hints and coffee. the flavor was a bit mild and a hoppy finish that doesn’t really deliver enough hops for the style

piney and a bit on the mellow side with some smoke in a bit of salt. a little grapefruit and not much malt that you can discern but the smoke is where that is at. acrid, salt and hop and i like this brew. The body is a 3.5 on the scale of 1 to 10, it is refreshing.

Bottle sample at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks beerandbeyond. Dark brown. Aroma has a bit of dark fruits, a bit of old hops and some roastiness. Sweetish roasty flavor with a bitter finish. Medium-bodied. OK.

12oz into a tulip. Pours a coal black with a brown laced head the rings around the top. Taste is dark chocolate, malty extravagence, and hoppy interludes between an ipa, porter and a black lager. Not the best blakc ipa out there, but certaintly not the worst. the abv is well hidden here, so watch out. Aroma is hoppy, dark choco, cocoa, and roasted fig. Aftertaste is slight bitter, dry, hoppy, and full bodied. A nice offering from peaks and the great state of Maine.

Bottle from Half Time. Pours dark brown with a creamy light tan head. Mixed aroma of resin and cat pee. Near med body. Flavor is mild chocolate with resin and a touch of citrus. It’s dry and hoppy. Not harshly hoppy, but hoppy. The finish is ashy chocolate and a lot of hop. Pretty nicely done.

I enjoyed this very much, but it seemed closer to a 5% beer than an 8% beer in terms of body, presence, and how I felt after drinking it. It’s very thin....light refreshing beer with a good hoppiness and a bitter refreshing finish. The pine described is definitely present. Very curious to know if it’s really 8.2% but I don’t know how that could be.

Deep dark brown body, light brown head. Aroma is very intensively hoppy with medicinal and portwine like aromas. Flavour has lots of roasted malt, liqourice, ash and high bitterness. Quite dry and harsh finish.

355 ml bottle. From Brooklyn, NY. Courtesy of Brandman.
Black colour with small creamy tan head. Buttery (slightly rancid) aroma combined with nice fresh piney hoppiness and dark maltiness. Flavour is dry liquorice, piney bitter hops, medicine and darkish maltiness. Tasty.

Tap @ FG with Erica. Pours black with big, tan head into chalice. Pretty good nose - hoppy, woody and roasty. Tastes of fresh, dry pine hops. A bit of roast in the flavor but really not a ton. That’s where I feel most black IPAs go overboard. This was pretty well balanced in my opinion and the "IPA" was the focus instead of the "black." I enjoyed it.
