Hop Noir is a delectable Black IPA, dripping with piney, aromatic Centennial hops. The malt base is dark and rich, anchored by organic black malt. This provides a strong foundation for the extravagant kettle hopping and dry-hopping that this beer experiences. Enjoy with a night-light.

Location: Draft at Blind Tiger, 1/2/12

Aroma: The nose is roasty, with lots of coffee, some licorice, citrus and pine hops
Appearance: This one pours a dark brown-black color, with a small frothy light brown head
Flavor: The heavy malt up-front, more roasty then sweet, with a mid hop, and a dry, roasty finish
Palate: Itís light-medium bodied, a touch watery for the style, with a soft carbonation, and a short duration
Overall Impression: I thought that one was a solid Black IPA that leaned toward the roasted side. It was pretty good, but there was something about it that was a bit lacking. Still though, it was a reasonably enjoyable beer.

22 oz bottle: Pours a light black with a little light seen through. Nice brown head. Citrus hop aroma but I had a cold and could not smell very well. Smooth, malty and fizzy on the tounge. Good citrus and pine hop with a malty balance. Nice but nothing too special.

In short: A exaggeratedly roasted dark ale with restrained hopping. Lame.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh 2 weeks after purchase
The look: Near black body topped by a medium tan head receding to a thin layer of foam
In long: Nose is highly roasted, burnt stuff, a bit of citrusy hops. This wonít be a hop bomb. Taste is more of the same. Grainy burnt malts that pile up and get a bit chalky, flour, light notes of rubber, wood ashes, burnt toasts. Discreet fruity hops that with a signature that is citrusy and also add a strange breakfast apple juice flavor. Body feels a bit empty. Low complexity and fortunately low intensity. This beer is not really offensive, it is not tasty enough be offensive. It is just lame and poorly executed. I like drinking a beer from Peak Organic once a year, it really makes me appreciate not drinking it the rest of the year.

22 oz bottle from local market. Enjoyed 18 Oct 2011. Used a pint, dark brown with light tan head. Some retention. Roasted malt nose with some citrus. Notes of licorice, burnt malt, chocolate, bitter pine hops. Medium body, low carbonation. Itís ok. I picked up a lot of pine resin. Which Iím not a fan of. Still decent.

Deep dark brown body with a creamy tan head and only a shade of translucency when held up to a light. Aroma of strong roasty malt, bright grassy and earthy hops and a touch of caramel sweetness. Full-bodied; Pungent roasty malts with a lot of body, a big hop bite with grassy and grapefruity earthiness and a long lasting, bitter and slightly sweet finish. Aftertaste lasts quite a while - very strong and very heavy bodied for the style. Deep sweetness runs long, but the fresh hops show off well, too. Overall, a nice and strong Black IPA that is almost more of a hoppier Baltic Porter to me, with a strong hoppy note kind of overshadowed by the rich body, strong alcohol and large format bottle. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 04-July-2011 for US$5.99 sampled at home in Washington on 18-September-2011.

22oz bottle. thanks to porterhouse for this extra... pours an almost stouty black pour with reddish brown edges and topped a fluffy light beige head that is semi-quick to dissipate... aroma is chalky with chocolate notes and strong, semi-harsh phenolic hoppy notes... flavors are much of the same with an odd sourness that develops on the backend to go along with the cocoa, ash, and abrasive hop overtones. smooth bodied but off flavors to go along with the unexpected off sour notes.

22 oz bottle from the local Market Basket. Pours black with a 1 finger mocha head that never completely recedes. Good lacing. Roasted malt nose with coffee and chocolate notes. Thereís a hint of hops in the scent, but just a hint. Flavor starts with an acrid bitterness that mellows a bit as you get into it. Some sweetness shows itself along with some citrus notes. Medium in body with a good level of carbonation. Tasty enough to get again and reasonably priced at $4.99.
