12oz. Bottle: Aroma of hops, diacetyl, light citrus, and light pine, and malt.
Poured very dark brown in color with a medium-sized, creamy, dense, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Good lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet and medium bitter. Tastes of hops, molasses, brown sugar, pine, resin, light coffee, slight diacetyl, and some wood. Medium body. Slightly viscous, then lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, hop, pine, diacetyl, resin, brown sugar, molasses finish is dry. 8.2%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
Light butterscotch nose. Cola brown, thin tan head. Soy sauce and slightly rancid meat flavor. Butterscotch and char appear toward the end. Malty bitterness. Does not compete favorably in a style with so many stellar examples.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tallahassee, Fl - Fermentation Market - 12 oz bottle. Deep, dark black pour, thick mocha head with nice thick lacing. Aroma has a definite spruce profile, nice and hoppy. Flavor is earthy and bold with some pronounced citrus grapefruit notes, nice bitterness, a hint of fresh licorice and black dirt. Mouthfeel is thick and rich. Overall, a solid black IPA - especially for an organic one.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
This is an interesting beer with a lot going for it, tons of roast malts, beautiful pitch black pour, but the body seemed really rough to me, chewy but not in a good way. Not quite sure what, but it didn’t really come together for me.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thin light tan head. Aroma of buttery popcorn and sweet roasted malt. Flavor is initially light citrus with a hint of buttery popcorn but finishes with smooth roasted malt, some charred malt notes, then sweet citrus hops in the finish. Certainly slightly flawed, but drinkable. I’ve had other Peak Organic beers with this same problem, unfortunately, because they have a lot of potential.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On draft at The Brazen Head. It is the biggest, darkest thing I’ve had from Peak, that is for sure. Green West Coast hops (Centennial, I see) lots of coffee flavor, some pine oil. The espresso taste sticks around on the palate. It is a little unbalanced imo, but still a fine brew.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Never had a "black IPA" But this is delicious. Strong malt flavored all through out. Crisp and full notes of hops especially at the finish. Good beer will buy again.
