COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hop Noir is a delectable Black IPA, dripping with piney, aromatic Centennial hops. The malt base is dark and rich, anchored by organic black malt. This provides a strong foundation for the extravagant kettle hopping and dry-hopping that this beer experiences. Enjoy with a night-light.

[3730-20110513] 1pt6floz body. Rich toasted malt aroma. Black body with a long-lasting creamy mocha head. Bitter roasted grains and boozy malt flavour. Full body. Something about it strikes me as odd, maybe too much roast. (7/4/6/3/14-) 3.4

22oz bottle, Foil wrapped, Twist-off. (Why put foil on a twist-off?) Very dark, black color, thick tan head. Awesome lacing coming off of the full cream. Instant scent of pine hops. Even from the empty bottle. The result of a nice dryhopping. Other aromas under the pine are burnt roasted barley, some molasses, and a zest of grapefruit. Wooded hops bitterness is the dominating character along with some burnt tire rubber, distant is the malt flavors. Basic chocolate and black patent malts. Burnt, charred, and roasted. Finishes with an obscene amount of licorice bitterness. HARSH bitterness from start to finish. Malt backbone adds a full bodied texture, you don’t see it past all of the hop. 6,5,6,1,16

Bottle. Pours a dark amber black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty hoppy aroma. Roasted malty hoppy bitter piney licorice flavor. Has a roasted malty hoppy bitter finish with hints of pine needles and licorice.

Foil wrapped screw bottle cap topped bomber (this combination is a first for me, screw top and foil wrapped!) pours dark mahogany with full mocha head. The aroma is a bit disjointed with pine hops, card board, citrus, burnt malts, black strap molasses and spicy anise. Doesn’t smell all that great. The taste begins with an initial mix of dark roasted malts, burnt malts, bitter and bold resiny pine hops and a dash of grapefruit hops. Toward midway the roasty malts are joined by some chocolate and earthiness. The taste is great since I’m in the perfect mood for this. Yum.

The pour is a deep black with a half-inch silky, tan head. The aroma is vibrant with earthy, piney hops and rich, dark malts with a baking chocolate note. The body is medium and glistens on the tongue. There is a bold, dry-hopped bitterness exploding at the end. A nice beer.

(Rating #3682)

22oz from Sam’s, Durham, on the recommendation of BBQ. Glad I took my man up on the tip, because this one is - particularly given its relatively nice price - a pretty good entry in the still extant craze. Oily, inky pour with mild sediment and a big creamy head. Nose of sharp dry hops and anise. Mouthfeel is full, almost luxuriant. Taste is very dusty and dry, and a bit spicy, almost like a black saison even though still hoppy as balls. Good one.

Very roasted almost burnt tasting. Not very bitter, darker malts definetly come though

Intensely roasted flavor almost burnt charcoal. The hops are relatively muted. A bit different for this style but not bad.

Very nice fresh hop aroma prominent with spice, pine and fresh grass. Black with ruby/brown highlights. Thick tan head which rains down at pouring. Taste is rich with hop character but not overwhelmingly bitter. Some of the roastiness of the dark mounts comes through as well but still leaves center stage to the hop oils. Not particularly alcoholic. More malt on the finish. Moderate body. Sticky lips when finished. Lots of the dark malt left far into the finish.
