3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
It pours a jet black with a one inch white foamy head that only lasts for several seconds. Some spotty lacing graces the sides of the pint glass. The smell has the pine and hops up front, some light malts enter in after some warming up. The taste is slightly bitter yet sweet in different aspects. The palate is medium with some carbonation coming out a bit strong. Overall, a decent beer from Peak Organic, probably not one to jump up and down about, but hey, I’ll graze over these for the rest of the winter.

This is really nice, great attributes. The sniff is the best part! Reeks of fresh hops with the look of a black ale. Flavor is deep with fresh hops and a roast malty back. Pretty smooth and 8% ABV! Overall this brew should get more love!! Try it hop lovers

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Odd aromas and flavors of copper and metal first greeted my senses, though quickly integrated into layers of light molasses, roasted malt, roasted meat, mild saline nuances, and orange citrus. Mildly bitter nuances keep the beer refreshing, though the roasted, toasted flavors dominate the beer overall. Not bad.. Though average at best.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A bodega, six-pack ($11): Pours near black with a brown head. Aroma is kind of like a soda mixed with an IPA and Porter; there be chocolate in small amounts, with plenty of American hops. Taste is sweetish at first then gets bitter and astringent and the bitterness sustains into the aftertaste. It is a bit harsh, but not unpleasant. Roasted malts compliment the hops well. Not a bad black IPA.

Pours a deep umber black color with nice two finger mocha head...aromas are a bit subtle but I get some chocolate malts and a bit of earthy piney hops. On the palate its has good medium mouthfeel with a rich chocolate roasted background that is heightened by a bit of sticky piney hop flavors. Nice lingering finish... wow this is one of the first beers brewed at shipyard that Ive enjoyed.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2012 Im not a huge ipa fan, a little too hoppy for my taste, but this was an interesting selection, a dark ipa, which I had never seen. It taste very similar to any ipa you might pick off shelf such as shipyard monkey fist but has a bit of a stout kicker to it which was nice. Its a solid beer, good color, good head, not my cup of tea per say, but as far as ipas go, solid.

May 13, 2011 - with blankboy, jerc & mabel. blankboy’s bomber. Nearly opaque ruby-black with a solid and last fluffy/creamy tan head. Hoppy aroma, resin, light coffee, some noticeable alcohol and not sweet at all - nearly an 8. Taste - odd - resin, citrus zest, quite roasty, something spicy and earthy, almost like pickled hot peppers, sourness hovering around the edges - stale coffee? Thick body, some drying acidity, still with a fairly long dry almost carbonized finish ... seemed a bit disjointed and boderline harsh.
