Hop Noir is a delectable Black IPA, dripping with piney, aromatic Centennial hops. The malt base is dark and rich, anchored by organic black malt. This provides a strong foundation for the extravagant kettle hopping and dry-hopping that this beer experiences. Enjoy with a night-light.

Odd aromas and flavors of copper and metal first greeted my senses, though quickly integrated into layers of light molasses, roasted malt, roasted meat, mild saline nuances, and orange citrus. Mildly bitter nuances keep the beer refreshing, though the roasted, toasted flavors dominate the beer overall. Not bad.. Though average at best. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

Pours a rich dark brown with a small head, but the head is pretty dense. Aroma of floral hops and citrus. Flavor is more stout than IPA. Roasty and sweet at first with a nice hop kick on the back end. Definitely lots of roasted grains in this one. Very smooth in the mouth and I would not have guessed that this beer is 8.2% ABV. Pretty good if you are looking for a black IPA that is farther toward the stout end of the spectrum.

35 cl bottle in NY. Dark brown color, thick creamy brownish head, strong hoppy nose. Aroma resempbles an IPA with grapefruit, caramel and spices, backed by a dark toasted presence. Strong hops completes the picture. Body is full, thick texture, heavy one. A shot in the dark.

Draft->shaker. Deep brown with moderate tan head. Chocolate and roasted malts with some earthy and citrus hop notes in a messy combination. More of a porter than a black IPA, and not well executed.

Pours almost black. Frothy tan head. Moderate lacing. Nose is mildly hoppy; citrus notes. Taste is on the bitter side, but some orangey citrus sweetness comes through. Medium body. Lively carbonation. Good brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bomber: this one pours a dark chocolate brown color. There was about a finger of a tan head on it that didn’t linger long. It has a surprisingly lighter nose. Malts, but not much sweetness at all. Perhaps a bit of chocolate roast and pine. It tastes OK, but I’m not sure why they call it a black IPA. Almost no bitterness to it. There is a good malt body, with some chocolate and roasted notes trying to peak thru but no real sweetness either. It needs a whole lot more hops to be in an IPA category. Let’s just call it a very good strong porter.

From notes sampled 4/16/2011 Pours a pretty solid black color with a creamy frothy khaki head that just wont quit. Spicy resinous pine mixed with hints of roast and a slight mineral/earthiness. This on fills my taste buds with and enormous resinous hop bite. Hints of roasty coffee break through and mix with the resinous hops, like drinking coffee out of the bong pipe. Bone dry finish with long lingering hoppy roasty aftertaste. Medium level of carbonation, medium body, slick resinous mouthfeel. I enjoyed this. This is another solid brew from a brewery that seems to be finding ways to get out from under the radar.

Pours well with ruby black hues and generous head. Aroma sweetish toffee, palate dark treacle, hops not bold enough to qualify for IPA status, so maybe not well named. Drinks nicely. Maybe too much time spent making it black rather than a Black IPA

#21 - pours dark brown, thick tan head, good lacing. Smells of citrus, dates, chocolate, coffee. Taste is more on the malt side, the hop coming through as a bitter effect. A little sweet. Chocolate and sour coffee. More like a porter, but slight bitter finish. Just OK. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
