Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jun 24, 2008 Amber-brown color. Thin, whispy head. Nutty, diacetyl aroma. The flavour is crisp and earthy with caramel, nuts and diacetyl. Fairly toasty, with a dry finish. argo0 (6231), Washington DC, USA Dec 25, 2006 (12oz bottle, best by 3/07) Crystal clear nut brown body topped by medium beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, molasses, some floral, light nutty. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, earthy, some nut sourness. Light-medium body, some acidity. muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jun 7, 2006 12 ounce bottle from City Market in Burlington, VT (June 2006), poured sacriligously into a Hair of the Dog glass at cellar temperature. Clear bronze in color, dull and smooth with a moderate fizzy off-white head that dies rapidly leaving no residue in the glass....near-competent aroma of brown sugar and cheap nuts, maraschino cherries and vanilla and that little touch of diacetyl lovingly placed in all Shipyard beers....cardboardy, dull mouthfeel, rancid nuts and acidic, soapy character throughout that gets more prominent with every sip....there are hints of wood and burnt malts, but overall it adds up to a terribly sour, rather bitter and charred-brackish, salty and spoiled finish. I can’t believe how incompetent this brewery is, I really can’t. Cornfield (4344), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Jan 29, 2008 My bottle’s label pictures a bunch of Peak drinkers at a wedding. I don’t want them at my house. Ugly packaging. The beer looks okay, a clear reddish brown with a creamy ecru head. Not much lacing. The aroma is sweet with caramel and has some nuts and a light earthy bitterness. Those hop flavors grow in the flavor, nearly supplanting the malt’s dominance, and leads to a dry & bitter finish. Personal Milestone: Brown Ale rating #100 (out of 4018) !!!!!Sam’s Wine & Spirits, Downers Grove, IL
JPDIPSO (4286), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA May 10, 2008 Bright umber color with a foamy beige colored head. Aromas of biscuits and mild citrus soap. Thin fell and flavor seem to go hand in hand tonight. Hints of caramel while the citric component takes over and I am suddenly sucking on a stale orange. A return of bitterness with an odd black malt bite. This has not been a memorable night for brews.
