COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This winter wheat beer uses dark malting to provide subtle toasty notes. We then single-hop and dry-hop this beer with Citra hops from our friend Brad’s farm. Interesting pineapple notes from the Citra hop provide a stark contrast to the toasty notes in the body. An engaging and sessionable Winter Seasonal. ABV: 5% IBUs: 62

ben4321 (3862) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JAN 31, 2013
Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 1/31/13

Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet and sugary, with leaves, tea, fruity notes, and a little caramel
Appearance: It pours a dark reddish-brown color with a tan head and mid-heavy lace
Flavor: Tastes mid-plus sweet, lots of odd leafy notes, some tea flavor, and a light-mid bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium, it drinks cleanly, with average carbonation, and a mild dryness
Overall Impression: This is some solid stuff, not a favorite for me, but sold stuff. There are a few different things going on, but overall, it works pretty well. For a winter beer with a nice low ABV, I could see this being an easy one to session. Interesting, but still clearly not great.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass due to the fact that this is not a dunkelweizen. Here’s why. The appearance was a dark brown color with a close resemblance to black color. The head was about a finger’s worth of white foaminess that dissipated within less than a minute leaving some light lacing sliding into the beer. The smell had some dark roasted chocolate malts with no banana esters any where in the entire 6 pack. The taste was mainly sweet through the chocolate malts with a light roasty coffee quality in the background. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but smooth. Overall, for an American dark wheat ale it fits but not as a true dunkelweizen.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with a clipped off expiration date of July 2014. So I’m in under the gun. It pours a slightly murky dark mahogany amber with a foamy beige head. Reddish hues. The aroma seems vague with toffee malts, banana, and an earthy hop note but nothing overdoes the other. It just seemed weak. The body was medium. The taste is a step up with a bolder malty and banana flavor and a low bitterness at the end.

12oz bottle from Orchard Fresh, Orchard Park, NY. A chestnut pour with a thin cream head; toasted malt aroma; fruity, pineapple taste; and a thin but lingering, dry, toasty finish.

Brown pour, no head. Pineapple, mango and light hoppiness in the aroma, coffee, roast, nuts in flavor. Finish manages to be both sticky and thin. Not bad overall.

DruncanVeasey (7134) - NUNEATON, Top 13, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - MAR 20, 2014
Bottle. Mahogany with a generous cappuccino foam. In defiance of appearance the aroma comprises floral, peachy and citrus hops with some Imperial Leather and soft lactic chocolate back notes. Flavour mushy digestive biscuit UK mild/brown ale base; peachy, floral and marmalade hop/yeast notes evoking London Pride; pronounced dunked Hobnob, lime cream and milky chocolate (Galaxy) aftertaste. Thoroughly attractive brew.

Bottle. Pours brown with thin white head that lingers. Mild carbonation over slight hop and caramel aroma. Flavors of toast and tart hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at home. Pours clear dark brown with a small, frothy off-white head, short retention with good lacing. Aroma is toast, cookie, nutty, and light chocolate malt, dates and plums with light earthy and herbal hops. Flavor is malt forward with light hops and medium bitterness, cooked fruits, and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Single bottle from Julio’s. Pours out a light clear reddish brown color. Little to no head. Grassy-malt-citrus aromas and flavors. Not really a dunkelweizen at all with its American yeast strain and high hopping. Not sure where they were going with this.
