COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An all-malt American Brown Ale with just enough hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. The aroma comes predominantly from the malt with a hint of the spiciness of imported British hops. Seven distinct specialty malts are milled at the brewery and mashed together, providing a complex, nutty flavor with subtle, roasted undertones. This Pearl Street original is a favorite amongst locals and professional beer judges alike. Gold Medal Winner at the World Beer Championships, 2003. Available on draught year ‘round.

This is the perfect gateway beer. It is easy to love and will slowly bring you into the craft beer world.

Bottle - Pours dark rosy brown with a foamy light tan head. Nose is dry bread malt and peanut butter, a hint of toffee, and just a touch of grassy hops. Taste is malty, with waves of dry bread, more peanut butter, and some mineral on the finish. Very little hopping--just some herbal hops in the background. Smooth and well-carbonated. Just decent, as the peanut butter really detracts.

2 oz. pour, on tap at the brewery’s taproom, as part of an 8-beer flight. Consumed on 5-14-14. Pours an amber / light brown with beige / taupe head. Good lacing. Lighter in color than a typical brown. Clear liquid. Light to moderate effervescence. Crisp, tart aroma is nutty and features scents of chocolate-covered almonds, mocha, and carob. Nutty flavor matches the aroma. Hazelnut element. Fruity / floral finish. Aqueous and a bit lively in the palate. Insubstantial palate effects. Pleasant but forgettable overall.

On tap at Grizzly’s in LaCrosse, on Eric’s recommendation (the place recommendation was great, this brew, not so much ... but they had nothing else on tap and he liked it). Pours brownish tan with a foamy white head leaving nice streaks of lace. Aroma has brown sugar, toffee. Taste not as good, thin, sweet. Blah even for a brown.

Pours clear, light reddish brown. Thin off-white head. Pleasant aroma, subtle and dignified. Nutty, some chocolate, light toasty. Flavor doesn’t carry quite the character. Watery followed by light malty sweetness, similar to aroma but thinner. Lighter bodied. Still some nice things happening on the palate though. Tasty though and easy to put back. I’d have another or 4.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark reddish brown pour with thin head, aroma brought notes of nuts, caramel, toffee, hints of earth, spice, slight bready notes as well. Taste is a mix of caramel, toffee, some slight nutty notes into a bit of spice, yeast, hints of grass, cocoa powder, finishing sweet.

Bottle into a shaker glass. Pours a clear ruby-chestnut brown. Medium off-white head that quickly fades. Pleasant aromas of bready yeast and caramel. Understated flavors of caramelized malt, walnuts and brown sugar. A bit thin and a touch too carbonated. Sessionable and refreshing for the style, but would be better with a more robust malt bill.

This may be the perfect beer. Pours out of the 12oz bottle an attractive deep brown with a inch thick creamy tan head. Aroma is that of chocolate and nuts. First sip fills your mouth with a light chocolatey maltiness and as your senses warm up to the flavor you can pick out a toasted undertone. the hops are understated but leave an ever so subtle bitterness on your tongue.

Mahogany pour with a light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, little nutty. Taste is little sweet, little watery, roasted malt.

Draft at the Waterfront La crossed wi. Thin tasting kind of flat served too cold for my liking.
