An all-malt American Brown Ale with just enough hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. The aroma comes predominantly from the malt with a hint of the spiciness of imported British hops. Seven distinct specialty malts are milled at the brewery and mashed together, providing a complex, nutty flavor with subtle, roasted undertones. This Pearl Street original is a favorite amongst locals and professional beer judges alike. Gold Medal Winner at the World Beer Championships, 2003. Available on draught year ‘round.

On tap at Ground Round. Light to medium brown in color. Very little aroma and very little carbonation. Slight malt aroma. Not much flavor to the beer either.

Tap at cousins rehearsal dinner in La Crosse. Pours murky dirty brown. Nose is nutty, earthy, and some floral. Tastes much of the same but also with caramel, and malt, and some fruit. Muddled finish.

Nice looking beer and very drinkable, but a little weak on flavor and aroma for a brown. Fair amount of alcohol on the finish, which was nice. I'll buy it again when I want something light and crispy.

Bottle. A clear, brown beer topped by a dense, finger-thick, light beige head leaving lacings. The aroma is lightly yeasty, with nuts, caramel and some roasted malts. Some bitterness in the flavor, with roasted malts and nuts doing most of the work. Medium body, pleasant carbonation, quite dry on the palate. Lasting finish with caramel and nuts. Rather boring this one, at least it didn’t ring my bells. 141219
