Bottle. Pours an amber brown with a thin tan head and little lacing. Something is off here. Aroma is sweet caramel and butterscotch. Taste is about the same with some nuttiness and a bit of hops to round things out. Not again

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This pours a lighter redish brown with very little head. This beer is sweet with nice carmal coffee taste. It also has a bit of chocolate and lightly bitter.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tapper at Pearl Street was served a light brown/amber color with a light head and lacing. Aroma was mainly of malts - very light. Taste was of malts with mild hop background. The flavor was somewhat non-descript. Mouthfeel was OK. Overall, an average brown ale.

12 ounce bottle from Woodman’s West Madison. Pours a slightly hazy brown with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. The aroma is purely overwhelming diacetyl. Caramel, butterscotch, buttered popcorn, some faint nuttiness if I really look deeply. Ick. The taste is caramel, nuts, butterscotch. Not as bad as the aroma but almost cloyingly sweet. Very faint hops in the finish.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
It might be their best beer. It is pretty benign, but it isn’t over the top awful like some of the others.

This beer is really pretty decent, but still nothing much to it. I like some more complexity.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle from our Wisco/Minn trip. Trying to get through these. Pours a nice mahogany brown hue, glowing ruby edges, a light haze, but a deep dark brownish red hue that is near transparent, almost like overdone sun tea. A small tannish head sits atop, dies to a small film, laces small. Aromas are brown malts, earthy and biscuity with touches if chestnuts, brown sugar, and tobacco. Caramel and toffee, with toast, touches of dark fruit. Initial is lighter bodied, biscuits and dry toast, some deeper tobacco, quite earthy and dry, with touches of cocoa, dried tobacco comes on stronger with earthy chestnuts, soil. Some peanuts, dry with a touch of ash, toast. Finish is a bit bland leaving that dry tobacco, nutty, and earthy finish. Touches of vanilla, caramel, but really dries out overall. Interesting, light, a bit one dimensional but the flavors are good for those who like more earthy and dry Brown ales. Ok. I think this is better than people seem to be giving it credit for. Really earthy, nutty, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea. But it was an ok beer in my book. Sweeter more bland nose than the actual beer is.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle pour gives medium brown color with brief pale yellow head. Aroma caramel and a bit rancid. Taste caramel, malts, slight hops with an astringent hoppy aftertaste. Palate thin and watery. Alcohol not apparent. Just don’t see much to recommend this one, maybe if you were eating it with a lot of food.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a red/copper/brown into the glass with a thick foamy head. Average viscosity and mouthfeel. The taste was all about malt, with some light hop notes on the finish. An above average brown ale, very quaffable but a little too thin to be considered top tier. Try it with sourdough pretzels.
