From tap, at Oktoberfest grounds in La Crosse. A very nice reddish brown color. The stuff smells pretty good. It had a rather yeasty taste to it, and I think it could have used a little bit more flavor, for all of its good aroma. I like the chocolate and molasses combination.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAY 25, 2006 On draught at the Freight House in La Crosse. Pours dark brown with a medium thin beige head that lasts pretty long. Nutty, malty aroma. Medium-bodied (a little watery at times) and smooth with an earthy malt flavor, along with notes of chocolate and nuts. The flavor is not very pronounced though. The finish is thin with sweet malt and caramel flavors. Fairly average overall.

On tap at Buzzard Billy’s in LaCrosse, WI. Pours dark cloudy brown with ruby red highlights and a dark tan head. Aroma of caramel malts and dark chocolate. Flavor follows aroma, but is much milder. Clean finish, but would have liked to see more flavor.
