Commercial Description:
An all-malt American Brown Ale with just enough hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. The aroma comes predominantly from the malt with a hint of the spiciness of imported British hops. Seven distinct specialty malts are milled at the brewery and mashed together, providing a complex, nutty flavor with subtle, roasted undertones. This Pearl Street original is a favorite amongst locals and professional beer judges alike. Gold Medal Winner at the World Beer Championships, 2003. Available on draught year ‘round.

On tap at Buzzard Billy’s in downtown LaCrosse, WI - pours a dark ruby red with a a thick, mocha colored head; thick, sticky lacing. Aroma has a touch of caramel and sweet molasses. Flavor also has some caramel in it with some underlying bittersweet chocolate. some nuttiness in there as well. Mouthfeel is just a tad thin, but still a decent brown ale.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Festival Foods in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Pours a clear dark copper/brown brew with a thick and lumpy off-white head that has some good retention and sticky lacing. Aroma of roasted dark caramel malt, some roasted nuts, dark pitted fruits, and a touch of citrus hops. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonated with flavors of toasted and burnt dark malt, a touch of chocolate, roasted nuts and some citrus hops. Finish has a nice toasted dark malt aftertaste that has some light porter and brown ale character.

Light nutty aroma, touch of caramel, minerals and fruit, almost strawberry like. Dark mahogany brown with ruby tones..fairly clear and a thick off white head with tight carbonation. Nutty flavor, some maltiness, but lacking a rich depth or body behind it. Thin body, watery mouth-feel.
