Pours jet black with a small, tan head that doesnít last. Strong coffee aroma with a bit of smokiness to it. Very sweet, no hop bite to it. There is a coffee taste that sticks around. A medium body, but slides down the tongue. Surprised what others are saying about this beer. Doesnít blow me away, but does have a place in the world.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2 oz. pour, on tap at the breweryís taproom, as part of an 8-beer flight. Consumed on 5-14-14. Labeled as "Pearl Street Thatís What Iím Talkiní íBout Rolled Oat Stout." Scents of chocolate, coffee, char, and oatmeal (I am happy to say that I noticed the oatmeal scent before I read the full name of the beer that indicated that it contains oats). Pours an opaque dark brown with tan head. Looks like cola or coffee. Some effervescence. Flavors of char and dark maltiness. Tastes good. Medium body. Forgettable palate effects. I was hoping for more smoothness from the oats. This is a solid, well made, and enjoyable beer, better than I expected, and underrated at this site.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 Bottle from the brewery. Black pour - cool looking. Beige head. Toasted oat aroma, more of the same on the taste. Maybe a hint of coffee in here. Palate is a touch thin. Pretty decent brew.

Pours pretty black into glass with little head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee, almost syrupy. Slight carbonation, thins out what would probably be a fuller mouth feel. Very solid, underrated stout!

Tap. Pours clear deep reddish brown with a medium brown head and great lacing. Aroma is coffee, dark roasted malts, and light orange peel. Flavor is the same, lightly sweet and light coffee bitter, with light astringence that fades as the beer breathes. Light to medium body. Again, I donít understand the low ratings on this beer.

On tap at GTMW. Poured deep brown with a creamy, smoked beige head. The aroma picked up toasted black malts, chocolate, and oats with a kind of airy overall quality to it. The flavor found toasty black malts and rolled oats on the smooth core.. some vanilla and earthy notes accented.. I dug it. Light-medium bodied with scratchy carbonation (that clashed a little with the smooth oats).. not quite enough roast.. aiight overall.

12oz bottle brought back from WI recently. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a deep pitch black. Thin beige head on top. The nose is really rich and bursting with sweet chocolate notes, syrup, a little booze. Really nice aroma. The mouth is moderately full. Carbonation is decent. Itís not as thin as others have noted. The edges could be smoothed out a bit, as there is a bit of a bite of carb at the back end. This is a roasted malt-forward beer for sure. A bit of char in the mouth, some smoke, and mild semi-sweet cocoa. This was a decent drink, and one I would revisit.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle pours deep brown/black with a beige head. Aroma shows roast, oats, chocolate, and coffee. Flavor shows the same with a slight vegetal quality as well as a large amount of ash. Overall body is light to moderate, oily, and finishes with roasted bitterness.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured a beautiful, almost black, dark reddish brown with a light mocha colored head that faded to minimal lacing. Aroma was of roasted malts with hints of coffee and chocolate. The flavor was similar - upfront taste of coffee and roasted malts with slight chocolatie hints. The backend was of smooth moderate hops. Palate was nice. Overall, I thought this was a decent stout. Definitely worth a try.
