3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled at a recent tasting. I was hoping this was gonna be epic but it turned out to be infected. The whiskey aroma/flavor was still there but it was somewhat funky, which made it somewhat hard to swallow.

Swingtop growler to taster (thanks Steve). Looks good; a dark cola with thin tan lacing. Smells dark malt, chocolate, coffee, and red wine. Tastes like it smells with a nice mouthfeel. Ggod beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Small stubby flip top growler from 50Belair. Thanks Matt! It pours super thick and very dark with a nice creamy brown head that settles to a ring. The aroma is extremely decadent with lots of rich chocolate, fudge, caramel, wood and dark fruit. Chocolate covered, whiskey soaked raisins come to mind. The whiskey barrel comes through nicely without being overpowering. The flavor is pretty much the same. Roasted malt takes a back seat to rich dark fruity raisins, fig, dates, etc… good woody finish with more whiskey heat. Huge, thick body with lots of residual sweetness. A sipper for sure.

Bottle: The aroma roasted coffee, dark chocolate, black licorice, coconut, vanilla, and light oak. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small brown head that quickly fades to a very fine ring. The flavor starts with chocolate, fruit, and light black licorice. It finishes with roasted coffee, light sour fruits, and a touch of vanilla. It’s full bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly oily mouthfeel.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
16oz growler from Ryan on BA. thanks, man. pours a silky, inky black with a rich, creamy, rusty brown head that leaves tight rings of lace. aroma is excellent with heavy roasted malts, baker’s chocolate, toasted wood, and coconut backed by subtle coffee, dark fruits, ash, and cinnamon toast with ever-present whiskey notes. flavor is where this one shines with a great balance of toast, charred barrel, spices, whiskey, and dark chocolate with notes of vanilla, black cherries, coconut, and graham crackers coming in late. palate is full bodied, creamy, and subtly carbonated with a lingering dry, ashy finish. overall, another great imperial stout from Peg’s/Cycle.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
16oz swing top shared thanks to scotchzi! Pours a oil thick black with thin ring of bubbly brown head that doesn’t really stick. Aroma is bourbon barrel goodness, vanilla sweetness, oak toasty notes, nice chocolate back. Taste is all of that plus, nice bittersweet finish and boozy burn on the way down. Sticky thick mouth that leaves you wanting more.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
16oz growler, 2013 release. Huge thanks to Mark for this surprise!
Pours black with a short-lived small brown head that settles down to just a ring.
Aroma is big whiskey, charred oak, rich and malty, more dark fruits than chocolate, some smoke. Very good strength.
Flavor is extremely rich, a lot of dark fruit, a lot of whiskey, vanilla, caramel, quite sweet, some dark chocolate comes out as it warms, boozy, warming, delicious.
Mouthfeel is almost full-bodied, sticky, lowish carbonation.
Fantastic barrel-aged stout. Very rich and complex. A real treat!
