Pours jet black with a light tan head. Aroma of rum, milk chocolate, caramel, brown sugar and molasses. Taste is sweet, brown sugar, rum and molasses up front. chocolate and roast. Thick and rich, a bit too sweet, I prefer rare.

Bottle from newcigarz. Thanks man. Aroma is buttered rum, toffee, candied pecans, cocoa, and black licorice. Flavor has most of the above with some medium roast coffee notes and some slight bittering hops. Palate is amazing, considering the richness of this brew, and really opens up in the middle to showcase its components. Finishes cleanly with narrowing aftertaste. Stellar beer.

Pours black, mocha head, thin collar, spotty lace, wisps. Nose is smooth booze, chocolate (milk/dark/bakers), light caramel, excellent level of rum notes in there too. It’s very easy to pick out the rum version versus the regular Rare DOS and it’s cool to have them side-by-side. Flavor is rum, chocolate, vanilla, burnt sugars, excellent barrel character. The booze is just oh-so-smooth and enjoyable and just to my liking. I think the rum adds something else to this beer instead of taking away from the base Rare DOS. Really just outstanding stuff. Full, rich and smooth, nice subtle carbonation, creamy finish.
I have to say, this is slightly better then Rare DOS for me. The rum barrel really adds another layer to this beer, even though I didn’t think it was possible. Not sure if I’ll ever have it again, but hey, my fingers are crossed!

Flippy topped growler provided to me by Hopscotch and shared with some guys at Triton Brewery: Deep brown with a lasting creamy head and oily legs. Really nice aroma of vanilla, roast, rum, marzipan, old skool oxidization, pipe tobacco, plum, prune and vinous port like tones. Lovely barrel versus malt character, rich malts and rum lead towards an intense lasting palate. Some char, chocolate, espresso, hint of honey bread. The mouth feel is lush and oily yet not sticky nor heavy, long lasting warmth but not boozy. MUCHO THANKS ERIC, this rocks!

Growler from my favorite trader Hopscotch. Thanks a bunch for this World class treat! Pours opaque black with a creamy dense brown head. The aroma is sweet roasted malt and biscuits. Light marzipan mixed with chocolate and light licorice notes. Absolutely full flavoured! Loads of sweet licorice, chocolate and roasted malt. Sweet dark ripe fruit, coconut and berries from the rum barrel. This is simply fantastic!!!

Swing-top from beernads! Big thanks! Clunky, deep murky black pour with thin tan head. Rum barrel gives a fruity/spicy nose to an otherwise spot-on impy stout nose with decadent dark chocolate, burnt marshmallow, soft roast malt, caramelized sugar, and vanilla. Flavor is more of the fruity/spice of the rum barrel (slightly acidic) with smooth cocoa/chocolate, powdery roasted malt, and vanilla sweetness. Absolutely NO alcohol. Probably one of the smoothest barrel-aged beers I’ve ever tasted, despite the big palate presence. While the rum barrel character was something unique, would love to taste the base beer in good ol’ bourbon barrels. Definitely a beer worth seeking.

Growler shared at The Stout Tasting Part I, London - enormous thanks to Jack for procuring this beer. Pours black-brown with a fine, creamy beige head. Some dark fruits in the nose, licorice, dark chocolate. Big sweet flavor with rich dark fruits, raisins, sweet dark bread, silky chocolate. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with lusty dark fruits, figs, dark chocolate, raisins, brownies. Great balance, super drinkable. Seriously, the beer is just outrageously good overall. Outstanding.
