4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Dunt (214) - Illinois, USA - APR 10, 2012Thanks Blake for cracking this rare treat. Poured into a Jester King snifter. Pours a flat pitch black with some brown hues around the edges. Nose is exceptional, there is a sharp booziness but it compliments the beer well. There is also chocolate, caramel, and oak. Flavor is also exceptional, it is incredibly smooth. Not as much alcohol character here, it is heavier on the rich chocolate and caramel. Velvety smooth mouthfeel, alcohol is well hidden, light carbonation, and a medium finish. The best rum barrel beer I’ve ever had. My rating might not actually reflect how much I enjoyed this beer, but it was very good.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 jkwood04 (2277) - Connecticut, USA - MAY 11, 2013
Growler poured into a snifter. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of rum, roasted malts, a lot of chocolate and coffee, and a little bit of bitterness. Flavor the same with such a great blend of rum and dark, roasted malts. Smooth, oily texture. A great beer with the rum adding a lot to the imperial stout.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 JulienHuxley (1705) - Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 6, 2013
From growler, shared by tom10101. Pitch black pour with thin veil of brown foam. Multi layered aroma, vanilla, molasses, coconut, rum, cake, caramel, fairly dim roastiness, definitely on the sweeter side of things a carribean treat. Chocolaty flavor, roasty acidity, rather dry compared to the aroma, was expecting something a lot sweeter and dessert-like. Palate is silky, creamy, a bit light for an american IS but quite enjoyable nonetheless. Could use more body but an interesting original take on the good ole IS.

Bottled. A brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of coffee, chocolate, and vanilla. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, and chilis, leading to a roasted finish.

Flip top bottle. Dark brown, almost black with a tan head. Oaky / woody, rum, roast, vanilla, chocolate, and coconut. Rum came out more in the tastes and more as it opened up.

Growler (500 ml). Thanks to Etan! Pitch black with almost no head. Aroma is rich and complex with rum, vanilla, fruits, coconut, roasted malt, oak, spices and slight chocolate. Taste is moderately sweet with vanilla, fruits, coconut, oak, cacao, spices and acidic notes. Full body. Low carbonation. Good Imperial Stout, but not a top-50 beers in my opinion. I would be interested to try it on tap though.

April 25, 2013 - growler shared by brian. Super excited to try this. Dark brown pour with no head. Nice aroma with a touch of rum. Taste was very sweet and had a mild tartness. Didn’t live up to the hype for me, but would have been nice to try on tap.

Growler from Eric - thanks! Aroma is rum sweetness, slight roast. Fuller palate but not thick. Quite sweet on the taste. Some chocolate and coffee, but it’s sweet more than roasty / dry.
