3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pelforth Brune is a very nice dinner beer. While I would consider it more of a Strong Ale than a Dunkel, I thoroughly enjoyed this drink. The appearance is perfect. Deep mahogany with a very nice brown head. This beer has a great amount of malt taste and finishes smooth and smoky. I will drink this again.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
The second beer that I sampled in Paris while waiting for a train, poured from the bottle. It had a roasty malt and caramel aroma, with a slightly grainy hops character too. The color was a darker tan with a light, foamy white head. It feature a bitter and sour taste; not much sweetness at all. The palate was thin, with low carbonation, and a light mouthful, although slightly creamy. It was not an exciting beer, but still better than an average/generic beer.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
50cl can: Pours a brilliant medium to dark red. Decent creamy tan head sits proudly on top but decides not to stay for the party. Aroma has a light skunk that quickly blows away. For the rest it is mild, fairly malty with some caramel sweetness with a touch of sea water. Flavor wise the beer becomes little more interesting. Malt first with light banana, raisin, and metal coming in the middle. Touch of roast and dark fruits. The finish starts with a corn syrup sweetness then makes its way back to tin. There is almost a bit of hop flavor in the finish too.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
bottle - Pours clear dark brown with a malty aroma and some nice lacing. The flavor is sweet caramel malt and a touch of dark fruit. I know, this style isn’t supposed to have any fruitiness, but that’s what I thought I tasted. It’s medium bodied and easy drinking, pretty good overall.

Lousy, but in a standard way. General grain/vegetal flavors. Meh. Good looking beer, though.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A firm, foamy, light tan head quickly disappears above a dark red-brown body. A quick light test proves the body to be extraordinarily clear. The aroma begins with some dark cherries, followed by a bit of milk chocolate and lightly roasted coffee. Actually, make that more like instant coffee. There’s a bit of breadiness to the affair as well. Sometimes the cherries tend towards a cough syrup aroma, and some part of the aroma strikes me as being too bright. But there aren’t any horrendous brewing artifacts here, no. Flavour is sweet with cherries and toast, and a little too acidic for my liking. Hm, kind of reminds me of cherry pop-tarts with icing. The finish is short and sharp with a little bit of pepper. Medium bodied, with a creamy texture and fizzy carbonation. Less acidity, less bright, less artificial and less carbonation would be a good start for improvement. Still, it’s not foul and drinkable enough. 50cl can, Leffe goblet, bbe 24/08/08.
