A firm, foamy, light tan head quickly disappears above a dark red-brown body. A quick light test proves the body to be extraordinarily clear. The aroma begins with some dark cherries, followed by a bit of milk chocolate and lightly roasted coffee. Actually, make that more like instant coffee. There’s a bit of breadiness to the affair as well. Sometimes the cherries tend towards a cough syrup aroma, and some part of the aroma strikes me as being too bright. But there aren’t any horrendous brewing artifacts here, no. Flavour is sweet with cherries and toast, and a little too acidic for my liking. Hm, kind of reminds me of cherry pop-tarts with icing. The finish is short and sharp with a little bit of pepper. Medium bodied, with a creamy texture and fizzy carbonation. Less acidity, less bright, less artificial and less carbonation would be a good start for improvement. Still, it’s not foul and drinkable enough. 50cl can, Leffe goblet, bbe 24/08/08.

Bottle. Very sickly sweet. Sweet and syruppy. Unbelievably undrinkable.. Disgusting mollasses. Yikes.

0.33 l bottle. Reddish brown color with creamy head. Sweetish, malty, toasty and toffeish aroma. The taste is equally malty and toasty along with caramel. Tasty and malty bock.

From bottle. Dark brown with a medium creamy head. Yeasty caramel aroma. Well-balanced caramel flavours. Good carbonation. Well-made, but a bit dreary.

Bottle, Cafe, Lille, France, 28-06-07 Poured reddish brown in colour, not too much of a head, taste fruity with some initial sharpness that was soon tempered by sweet malt underbelly.

From my notes 6/15/07 pours a two-finger light tan head that fades slowly, leaving some lace. Deep mahogany color. Malty nose. Light carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Flavor is malty and nutty, clean finish. Nice to have a decent French beer for a change. Best by Jan 26, 2008. €4.00 ($5.48) 330ml green bottle at Hotel Mercure Lyon, France.

Deep clear brown with a foamy tan head. Bread crusts and a little chocolate in the aroma, malty palate of same character, sweet but not too sweet. Really nice.

Bottle. Bar du Palais Domfront. Malty, caramelly aroma. Malty, caramelly flavor with milk chocolate and a chichory bitter aftertaste. Tasty brew.
