COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout...Bad Santa has arrived. This mysterious dark elixir is filled with complex malt flavors and aromas. The toasted malt and roast character blend seamlessly to the alluring citrus and herbal hop aroma that comes from copious amounts of Ahtanum hops.

Bomber. Citrus and light roasted malts. Solid bitterness throughout. Malty sweetness shows up in the background as the brew warms up. Finish is crisp, piny and bitter. Tasty.

Bottle @ 10K + OT. Thanks, Andrew. Dark brown with ruby highlights. Khaki foam. Piney, herbal, woody hop nose. A bit of apple and peach, slight grass, and some roast. A touch of sweet caramel, chocolate, and toast. Flavor is fairly bitter. Lots of roasted malt and resinous, piney hop character. Herbs, grass, and light malt sweetness. Decent.

>> Pours a clear coal with weak soda fizz. Nose is camphor, cherries smoke. Taste is bitter, weaker body, lemon peel. Palate is mild cocoa, lightly bitter. Wasn’t sure what kind of beer this was, was thinking Christmas generic spiced brown ale. But Black IPA was a shock as this wasn’t anything I associate with that style.

pours black with a dark tan head. The beer starts lightly sweet and bitter. There are some roasted malts and a bit of bitter chocolate. The only thing missing in this black IPA is more hops.

Bottle. My rating on this was is mostly my fault, as it has sat in my "storage" for too long (note that my "storage" has been my parent’s basement, where I’m currently visiting). The nose on this one is fairly roasty, but has a lot of older hop elements that are past their prime. Taste is definitely a little bitter, but with a lot of roasting that really dominates. Could be a very good brew.

22 ounce bottle. Thanks Sean. Pours black with a decent tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, and citrus. Taste is roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, citrus, and some pine. Pretty good and easy to drink.

Bottle thanks to Sean. Pours clear ruby black with a medium creamy tan head and nice lacing. Aroma is pine, caramel, toffee. Flavor is pine and dark sugars, lightly sweet, medium bitter, some resin and only a bit of roastiness. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Bottled on 10/29/13, but not holding up well at all.

I must not be an Ahtanum fan. I found the balance of this black IPA a little too tilted to the malt side. And though tasty, I kept wanting a little more hop bite. Maybe my palate is too demanding in hops at this point.

on tap, pours a nice pitch black with a thin head and light lacing. Nice caramel, roasted malts, coffee nose. thick overly sirupy attack, a bit muddy on the finish. good, not amazing.
