3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
The Dan Journal #489. 22oz bomber. First pour is filtered with a bronze highlight to the brown hue. Finger width of dense cream colored head. Aromas of bright citrus hops and sugary, maple malts. The body is on the fuller side of medium. A crisp tingling effervescence and a smooth fresh malt character. Nice brownie and toasty malts with a subtle nutty and earthy flavor. The malt palate is both sweet and tangy with, when mingled with the carbonation, a slight citrus candy note. The hops are there in the palate, and while they definitely add a deeper degree of depth to the palate, they are still well blended and add to the overall balance. Slightly sticky in the finish, but the syrupy sweetness lingers as long as the astringent effervescence and the tangy, bitter hops. This does seem nice and fresh, which is paramount for a brown ale personally. Well done and well crafted!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Another gem from my new top of the pops brewer. At just on cool and into a snifter. Looks the ducks nuts. Deepest ruby chestnut and brilliant with a good two inches of lasting off-white mess that leaves a thick lace. Soft and subtle roasted nut brownie nose with licks of pumpernickel, camphor, peppery spice, mace and driftwood. On the palate it doesn’t sway much. Beautifully malty, nutty and woody with a light glimmer of hop. Wonderfully drinkable; this is that beer that you order pint after pint without thought for after work drinks and, kebab in hand, stagger home afterwards. Medium bodied as it warms. Rich milk chocolate comes through amidst plenty of roasted, nutty malt, Nutty, roasty, toasty finish is long and matched by an earthiness that balances the chocolate notes. Creamy and soft. Extremely sessionable. Brilliant brown ale that might even convert the haters. Lovely!! (6.2% ABV, 1pint, 6fl.Oz, no date stamp, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

On tap at the brewery. Pours brown with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel and pale malts, light toffee, light bitterness, and some dough. Flavor the same with an off note on finish. Average texture. Not the best brown ale, but not awful.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Near black body with a thin ring of beige head. Aromas of charred malt, roast, smoke. Sweet malt with medium alcohol presence. Perhaps an over abundance of burnt / charred malt. Low carbonation with notes of melted chocolates and booze. Decent in small quantities. Could use a few tweaks.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, 6.2% ABV. Dark reddish brown with a large off-white head that laces nicely. Aroma of chocolate and toffee, some piney and herbal touches that jar slightly. Sweet with some chocolate and lots of fairly plain toffee. Fairly high bitterness chokes off the sweetness OK, but undermines the soothing quality of the maltiness that comes before. Not that that’s all that interesting for the strength. Caught between two stools for me - neither bland but harmonious nor quite breaking away.
