COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This special, once a year beer is produced with 420 pounds of freshly picked, "wet" Sterling hops from Goschie Farms in Silverton, OR. The hops were only 3 hours from the vine when they went into the kettle. The mash tun was also used as a hop back, holding 300 pounds of hops!!! This beer features a huge floral, spicy, grassy aroma with a firm malt background and a huge, snappy hop finish. Produced using one malt, one hop variety, one yeast and pure coastal water, this is truly an elemental beer. This years version of Elemental Ale was inspired by Nigel Tufnel and his amp that goes to eleven, and to celebrate Head Brewer Darron Welch’s eleven years of brewing at the Pelican Pub & Brewery

Tap at Pelican brewpub as "Elemental IPA". Pours a clear orange. Webby lacing. Nose is juicier citrus hops, perfume, moving to something a bit chemical. Taste is chemically bitter, perfumey, sharp ginger bite, white grape juice. Clean, balanced body. Strange, but likeable.

Draft at Brouwer’s. Pours a clear, pale, orangeish amber. Resin, pine, onion, just a little biscuit in the aroma. Taste is lightly sweet up front with assertive (but still quite pleasant) bitterness. Medium body, average carbonation, easy to drink. Solid.

On tap at Brouwer’s Cafe, pours a clear bronze with a medium white head. Aroma brings out quite a bit herbal hops, a little pine, and earthy malts. Flavour brings out very fresh earthy and piney hops. Not really much of a malt backbone, but the hops shine bright. Good stuff.

Darkened orange appearance. Nice lacing. Nose is very piney with a hint of biscuit. Taste is very bitter in the 80 ibu range. Piney as all hell nice back bone. Not a lot of nose but drinks nicely

Draught. Perhaps was too cold but aroma was faint, spice herb field. Malty flavour with hop interpenetrated, this definitely is a pale ale. Hop spice finish.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear gold with a small white head that laces the glass. Aroma of grapefruit, grass, pine, and pale malts. The flavor hits all the same notes. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a mildly bitter mouthfeel. Solid APA but I preferred the Silverspot IPA I had alongside it.

Pale golden-straw colour. The aroma is softly spicy and fruity. Fresh and grassy with a bit of light herbal character. Lemon and herbal flavour. Lovely and clean. Assertively bittered.

2011 - Plenty of that fat green foliage of which I’m not the biggest fan, but enough lemon, pepper and grassy hop notes to make it stand out among this year’s crop of ’Fresh Hops’. Light and spritzy. Good toasty malt backbone. Well balanced.
