COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Grand Cru de Pelican is the result of inspiration, creativity, and imagination. With a nod to the great brewing traditions of Belgium, we have been inspired to create this dark, sensous brew. Grand Cru de Pelican entices with a rich, complex aroma, and satisfies with deep malty and caramel flavors. Spicy, aromatic flavors provide a harmonious counterpoint to the malty foundation of this robust beer. A snappy finish and medium-light body enhance the smooth drinkability of this beer.

Bottle @ home received via trade with FlandersNed. Pours mostly clear tawny with a small, fizzy off-white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is plums, figs, and dates with cookie and caramel malt, and light oxidation notes. Flavor is malt dominant with dark candied fruits, faint hops and bitterness with a caramelized candi sugar note and a sweet finish. Full body and light carbonation.

750ml bottle from Pelican. Murky amber copper with a beige head. Aroma of toffee, dark fruit, alcohol and oak. Flavor is lots of sweet raisin, toffee, musty/fruity yeast and virtually no alcohol. Medium body with a soft mouth feel. Super good beer, very good balance of sweetness, yeastiness and alcohol.

750 ml bottle @ OT. Pours very hazy yellowish reddish brown with a frothy goldenish brownish beige head that slowly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, malty and fruity with apple pie, pears, raisins, caramel, toffee, dry wood, moist grass, prunes, biscuits, cinnamon, cardamom and hints of alcohol and cloves. Taste is slightly sweet, tiny sour and fruity with biscuits, alcohol, red apples, unripe pears, overripe peaches, wood, moist grass, cinnamon, oatmeal cookies, cardamom, rhubarb and hints of lemon juice and red wine. Mouthfeel is round, smooth, slightly dry, tiny tart and medium bodied. Finish is slightly sour, fruity and slightly tart with bread, apples, pears, grape juice, moist grass, wood, cinnamon, rhubarb and hints of cloves. Very nice!

(Bottle, Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 1 Aug 2012) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with dried fruit, raisins and caramel. Slightly vinous. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, dried fruit, raisins, prunes, toasty grain and a vinous finish with a slight acidity. Almost full body, fairly sweet, with a mild spicy bitterness. Tasty and well balanced. Really nice.

May 13, 2011 - with blankboy, jerc & mabel. Corked & caged 750ml bottle courtesy of J&K, 2009 vintage. Very bubbly hazy dark copper with a huge and lasting fluffy/frothy off-white head. Incredibly yeasty aroma - apple, mild red wine, some black pepper ... like a sweet peppery dubbel, fruity sweet and floral - nice! Taste is pretty strong with the alcohol, lush and sweet, plenty of apple and rasin, a bit pungent with dried wildflowers (in the background: "you can watch your brain on TV!!") - and the alcohol starts to come through a bit. Mouthfeel is a little creamy and syrupy, frothy carbonation with a building dry appleseed bitterness from the yeast in the finish, seems less sweet as a result. Good, but not really great.

Bottle. [thank you after4ever]
vintage 2007
Pours clear dark black-brown with a lovely, creamy, beige, fat head. Aroma has chocolate, plums, raisins. Just plenty of goodness. Low to medium carbonation, fat and light creamy mouthfeel. Good dryness. Flavour is delicious, fat dark chocolate, liqourice, red berries, vinious, Belgian sugar. Dry and fairly grainy bitterness like cocoa-powder. Super balanced.
