Celebrate the arrival of this Autumn season with our German style Märzen lager! Märzen ("maer-tsen") is the German word for March, which refers to the month in which this style of beer was originally brewed. During the middle ages, this beer was brewed during the spring and aged in cool cellars throughout the hot summers. This allowed for a slower fermentation and long aging time also known as "lagering". The beer was consumed in the late summer and early fall which led to festivals commonly referred to as Oktoberfest.

Life on Märzen is a golden lager brewed with Vienna, Munich, and Pilsner malts. This blend of malts lends itself to a beautiful golden color, a clean, rich and toasty aroma, and a pleasantly distinct and complex flavor with a nice dry finish. This lager is appropriately hopped with Hersbrucker, a noble hop, which is added at various times throughout the boil. Hersbrucker gives off a classic German hop aroma and flavor with subtle notes of grass, flowers, and slight fruit.

Draught @ Brouwer’s Café:   Translucent golden, a little fiery in color, lively carbonation, moderate frothy white head, nice lacing.   Pale biscuit nose, bready, and nutty.   Seems a little soft, or at least softer than most.   Mealy on the tongue, but not too heavy, pale breadiness, very soft stray/hay like sweetness, very minor biscuit.   Not as heavy as I would have thought.   More in the traditional sense perhaps?   Wished it were a little sweeter tho.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Biscuity backside, a little nutty, bready, pakle sweetness lingers.   Clean for sure.   Wished it were a little heavier, despite being heavier than most German examples.   Oh, and if heavier, sweeter, more caramel or toffee would be nice.   Other than that, a clean and slightly heavier example than most German versions.
